A group of suspected Boko Haram insurgents has launched another attack in Borno State, causing panic and devastation among Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the area…….CONTINUE READING

Reports indicate that the insurgents set fire to several newly constructed buildings meant for the IDP returnees in Dikwa Local Government Area. This alarming incident has forced residents to flee their homes once again, seeking safety from the violence.

The targeted buildings were intended to provide shelter for individuals who had previously fled their homes in Dikwa and sought refuge as IDPs. Unfortunately, the attack occurred shortly after the insurgents abducted some IDPs who had ventured into the forest to gather firewood.

The insurgents further escalated the situation by launching an assault on a remote village in Gajibo, where they engaged in indiscriminate shooting and set ablaze over 25 newly erected houses. Eyewitnesses recount the terrifying ordeal, with one individual describing the sight of multiple houses engulfed in flames.

The military presence in the area has been heightened, with troops instructing civilians to wait for hours before leaving certain villages for safety reasons. This delay underscores the severity of the situation and the ongoing threat posed by the insurgents.

Residents report that the insurgents also planted improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the construction site, posing additional risks to the rebuilding and resettlement efforts of the state government. The discovery of these bombs highlights the need for increased vigilance and security measures to protect civilians from further harm.

The attack serves as a stark reminder of the persistent threat posed by Boko Haram in the region and the urgent need for effective strategies to address insurgency and protect vulnerable populations. As the affected communities grapple with the aftermath of this tragic event, efforts must be intensified to ensure the safety and security of all residents in Borno State and beyond.
