President Bola Tinubu is reportedly planning a major cabinet reshuffle before Nigeria’s Independence Day on October 1. This decision is said to be in response to mounting criticism of his administration’s economic management.
Sources within the presidency told BusinessDay that several key ministries, including Petroleum Resources, Power, Transport, Water Resources, Environment, and Defense, are expected to see changes. The reshuffle aims to address growing discontent within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and concerns over the party’s ability to maintain power in the 2027 elections.
An anonymous APC chieftain expressed dissatisfaction with Tinubu’s economic policies and criticized delays in filling vacant ministerial positions, such as the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs. The chieftain argued that this undermines efforts to restore public confidence.
While Tinubu has reportedly been monitoring his ministers’ performance, insiders suggest that the reshuffle will be announced either before or during his Independence Day address on October 1.
