In an interview with Channels Television on Friday morning, Shaibu expressed that there is tension between him and Governor Obaseki, citing instances where his calls go unanswered and greetings are ignored, both in public and private settings.
He stated, “My relationship with the governor (Obaseki) is not cordial…I have tried calling him, and he doesn’t pick up my calls. I greet him at public functions and he doesn’t answer me.”
The strained relationship between Shaibu and Obaseki stems from a longstanding political feud, primarily revolving around Shaibu’s governorship ambition.
Addressing the process leading to the PDP primary election, Shaibu insinuated that certain rules and processes were not followed, indicating discrepancies in the election procedure. However, he expressed confidence in his candidacy, asserting that he is the authentic candidate of the PDP and will emerge as the party’s flagbearer and governor of Edo State come September 2024.
He added, “In the coming days, we will be meeting with the party and other stakeholders and they will see that for them to have a candidate in this election, they must allow Shaibu to remain, unless PDP is not interested in having a candidate which I know they want to have a candidate in this election.”
