Governor Diri Faces Tribunal Challenge Over Election Victory....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Bayelsa State Governor, Duoye Diri, alongside his Deputy, Lawrence Ewhrujakpo, is set to present their defense at the state governorship tribunal in Abuja next week…….CONTINUE READING

The tribunal, prompted by a challenge against their re-election by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Timipre Sylva, will hear their case.

The dispute arises from the November 11, 2023, governorship election results, where the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Diri the winner with 175,196 votes, surpassing Sylva, who secured 110,108 votes.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the outcome, Sylva and the APC have filed a petition with the tribunal, contesting Diri’s victory.

Their argument chiefly revolves around the conduct of elections in certain polling units across three local governments—Southern Ijaw, Ogbia, and Nembe—where they allege that votes were not properly accounted for in the official results.

They argue that including these results would alter the election outcome in their favor, urging the tribunal to recognize the overlooked votes and declare them the winners.

During the tribunal proceedings on February 14, 2024, INEC defended its stance by presenting evidence aimed at demonstrating that the voting process in the disputed areas was compromised due to material diversion and disruptions linked to the alleged bypass of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machine.

With four witnesses called to support their case, the petitioners requested an adjournment to gather additional testimonies, a request to which the respondents did not object.

Subsequently, the tribunal’s three-member panel, chaired by Justice Adekunle Adeleye, scheduled Monday and Tuesday of the following week to continue the trial.

Following the petitioners’ presentation, Governor Diri, Deputy Governor Ewhrujakpo, and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are expected to commence their defense, marking the next phase in the tribunal’s examination of the contested election results.

In a third operation, also on September 9, troops from Sector 1, in collaboration with local vigilante groups, apprehended a suspected logistics supplier in Birnin Gwari LGA. Four communication devices believed to be used by terrorists were recovered during this arrest.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has advised former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to drop his 2027 presidential ambitions, pointing to his health and age.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking in Abuja on Monday during a gathering with members of the Fulani Farmers Association at his home, Kwankwaso—who is running alongside NDC presidential standard-bearer Peter Obi—suggested that Atiku should instead shift his focus toward his traditional duties as the Wazirin Adamawa.

Addressing the delegation in Hausa, Kwankwaso asked them to convey his message directly to Atiku, acknowledging him as an elder statesman.

“Go to the Wazirin of Adamawa’s house and tell him in Fulani that he needs to focus on his traditional title of Wazirin, given his age and health,” he stated.

He also assured that if he and Obi emerge victorious in the 2027 polls, they will ensure Atiku continues to receive proper backing.

“If Allah grants us success, we will take good care of him, especially since you all come from Adamawa. An apology should be offered to him,” Kwankwaso added.

Atiku, a long-standing figure in Nigerian politics, has run for the presidency multiple times, securing major party tickets in 2007, 2019, and 2023. Back in April, the former vice-president—who turns 81 in 2027—announced that the upcoming election cycle would mark his final bid for the presidency.

Osoba passed away on August 5, 2026, nearly two years after undergoing surgery for breast cancer in November 2024. Although a candlelight procession and artiste tribute night were held on August 11, and an initial burial date set for August 13, 2026, the family delayed the final rites to finalize arrangements and address outstanding matters.

Her death sparked online speculation connecting her passing to emotional distress instead of cancer, alongside allegations of mistreatment during her illness leveled against her fiancé, Itunu Onadeko, and his relatives. In response, the Celestial Church of Christ—where Onadeko functions as a shepherd—initiated an internal probe into the circumstances of her death. Osoba initially started out as a dancer before entering the acting industry in the early 2000s, gaining recognition for roles in films such as Gucci Girls (2012), Accident (2013), and Ifedolapo (2015).
