The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a warning regarding a falsified Paracetamol Injection that is being mislabelled and circulated in Nigeria under the guise of an Aminoglycoside Antibacterial medication……….CONTINUE READING
According to a statement released by NAFDAC on Wednesday, the falsified product, labelled as ‘Paracetamol Injection 300mg/2ml I.M I.V Aminoglycoside Antibacterial’, was discovered during a surveillance activity conducted by the post-marketing surveillance (PMS) unit of the Agency in FCT, Abuja.
Upon further investigation, it was found that the product contains only paracetamol, an analgesic and antipyretic medication used to treat mild to moderate pain and reduce fever. Contrary to its label, it does not contain any Aminoglycoside Antibacterial agents, which are a class of antibiotics used to treat serious bacterial infections.
NAFDAC has directed all its zonal directors and state coordinators to monitor and remove the falsified product from circulation within their respective zones and states. Importers, distributors, retailers, healthcare professionals, patients, and caregivers have been urged to exercise caution and vigilance to avoid the use of the falsified product.
Healthcare professionals and consumers are encouraged to report any suspicion of the sale of substandard and falsified medicines or medical devices to the nearest NAFDAC office or through the agency’s hotline and email. Additionally, adverse events or side effects related to the use of medicinal products or devices should be reported promptly to NAFDAC for investigation.
This development underscores the importance of stringent regulatory measures and public vigilance to ensure the safety and efficacy of pharmaceutical products circulating in the Nigerian market. Consumers are advised to only obtain medical products from authorized and licensed suppliers, and to verify the authenticity and physical condition of the products before use.
In light of this revelation, NAFDAC continues to intensify its efforts to combat the circulation of falsified and substandard medical products in Nigeria, safeguarding public health and ensuring access to quality healthcare for all citizens.
