This ruling was issued by Justice Ntong Ntong during a session on Thursday in Uyo, following a lawsuit filed by the respondent’s wife and mother of the three children.

Justice Ntong declared that the respondent deliberately disregarded a court order and a decision previously made by Justice Iboro Ukpanah on November 9, 2018.

He recalled that the court had mandated the respondent to provide a monthly maintenance allowance of N20,000, along with essential food items and payment of school fees, medical expenses, and other necessities for his children.

Despite repeated reminders and warnings, the respondent persistently refused to comply with the court’s directives, displaying contemptuous behavior towards the authority of the court.

Describing the respondent’s actions as contemptuous and disrespectful, Justice Ntong emphasized the importance of upholding court orders, especially concerning the welfare of children.

In accordance with the provisions of the Child Rights Law 2008 of Akwa Ibom State, which prioritizes the best interests of children in legal proceedings, Justice Ntong directed the police to detain the respondent for one month as punishment for his disobedience.

The case has been adjourned until Thursday, March 28, 2024, for further proceedings.
