Court Affirms Asama Ago’s Election Victory: A Testament to Democracy....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has officially affirmed the election of Hon. Daniel Asama Ago, representing the Bassa/Jos North federal constituency of Plateau State. This decision comes after a series of legal challenges surrounding the February 2024 bye-election, which saw Asama Ago of the Labour Party declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Initially, Asama Ago’s victory was contested at the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, which ultimately upheld his election. However, his opponents pursued further appeals, leading to the recent ruling from the Court of Appeal on September 6, 2024. The justices have now put an end to the legal tussle, encouraging all parties to work together for the benefit of the constituency.

In a statement following the ruling, Asama Ago expressed gratitude to the judiciary for its commitment to justice and the will of the people. “The Court of Appeal’s decision underscores the importance of democracy and the rule of law,” he stated. He dedicated his victory to God and the residents of Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency, acknowledging their unwavering support throughout his political journey.

Asama Ago also extended his appreciation to Plateau State Governor Barr Caleb Mutfwang for his steadfast support in promoting democratic values. He emphasized his ongoing commitment to serving his constituents and working towards their betterment.

This ruling not only solidifies Asama Ago’s position but also reinforces the judiciary’s role in upholding electoral integrity in Nigeria. As the dust settles on this election dispute, the focus now shifts to collaborative efforts to enhance the representation and welfare of the people in the Bassa/Jos North constituency.

Ahmad made the assertion in a post on his X handle, maintaining that Kwankwaso’s decision to accept the position of running mate should be seen as an act of political modesty rather than an indication that he is less qualified than Obi.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to the former presidential aide, the relationship between the two politicians should be viewed as one of equals rather than that of a superior and a subordinate.

“To be entirely candid, the political dynamic between Rabiu Kwankwaso and Peter Obi ought to be characterised as one of collegiality between peers, rather than a hierarchy of principal and subordinate,” he wrote.

He added, “The choice to assume a deputy role beneath Obi ought to be interpreted as a testament to political modesty.”

Making a case for Kwankwaso’s political experience, Ahmad recalled that the former Kano State governor served as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives before Obi became a prominent figure in national politics.

He also noted that Kwankwaso governed Kano State, which he described as Nigeria’s most populous and politically influential state, for two terms and served as a federal minister.

“If we are assessing political experience, Sen. Kwankwaso probably has a longer and more impressive political background than Peter Obi,” Ahmad stated.

In contrast, the former presidential aide argued that Obi’s major public office experience was limited to his tenure as governor of Anambra State.

“Unlike other candidates, Peter Obi was just a former governor of Anambra State,” he wrote.
