Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director General of NAFDAC, made this troubling revelation during a recent gathering of stakeholders in Abuja.
Adeyeye emphasized the importance of the Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product (CPP), which follows the guidelines outlined by the World Health Organization (WHO), in ensuring the quality of pharmaceuticals and the credibility of the exporting nation.
Despite stringent efforts to uphold product standards, Adeyeye expressed dismay that a significant number of CPPs reaching Nigeria are counterfeit.
In response to this pervasive issue, NAFDAC remains steadfast in its commitment to rigorous regulatory measures. Adeyeye underscored the agency’s readiness to blacklist non-compliant companies and swiftly penalize those compromising product integrity.
NAFDAC’s proactive approach includes a multifaceted strategy to tackle substandard and falsified medicines, incorporating prevention, detection, and responsive actions to safeguard public health.
