According to Punch Newspaper, the NNPCL linked the situation to a temporary distribution issue.

Reports from Naija News indicate that on Monday, lengthy lines formed at numerous fuel stations in Lagos, leading to panic-buying amid rumors of an impending fuel shortage.

Observations revealed queues stretching along Ikorodu Road, Ikeja, Ojodu Berger, and Lagos Ibadan expressway, with some stations in these areas temporarily closed.

Femi Soneye, spokesperson for NNPCL, refuted suggestions of an impending fuel scarcity in his comments on the matter on Tuesday.

Soneye assured that NNPCL’s fuel products remained readily available without any supply constraints.

He explained, “We are pleased to confirm that there are no supply issues, and our products remain readily available.”

“The recent tightness experienced in certain areas was due to a brief distribution issue in Lagos, which has since been resolved,” Soneye added.

Hammed Fashola, the National Vice Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, acknowledged the queues at various Lagos petrol stations.

However, Fashola suggested that the queues might be a result of panic-buying among customers rather than an actual fuel shortage.

“While I am not currently in Lagos, I have also heard reports of queues. It could simply be panic buying. I am uncertain if there is an actual fuel scarcity. People may just be panicking. Nonetheless, I will investigate the matter further,” Fashola stated.
