Cardoso will be joined by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun; the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu, and the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zaccheus Adedeji.

This announcement was made by the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Yahaya Danzaria, in a statement issued on Monday.

During the scheduled plenary session, Cardoso will provide insights into various economic issues, including the depreciation of the naira and other challenges impacting the monetary aspect of the economy.

The CBN governor will engage in a sector-specific debate with lawmakers, focusing primarily on the financial sector.

Cardoso and other government officials will brief the lawmakers on the current state of the naira and the progress in implementing the 2024 budget.

Last week, Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, had disclosed plans for a sector-specific debate on the financial sector, aimed at evaluating the nation’s preparedness to mobilize necessary financial resources for budget implementation.

Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Akin Rotimi, confirmed the development in a statement on Monday, emphasizing the objective of promoting transparency and accountability in government activities.

Rotimi stated, “The House of Representatives is gearing up for the second edition of its sectoral debates/dialogues scheduled for Tuesday, February 6, 2024, as part of its ongoing policy brief series.”

He added, “This edition, focusing on the financial sector, will feature key stakeholders such as the Minister of Finance, Minister of Budget and Planning, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).”
