Calls for Investigation into Nigeria National Petroleum Company Amid Fuel Price Hikes....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Concerns over rising fuel prices in Nigeria have prompted a public affairs analyst from Bauchi State, Sabo Muhammad, to urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to suspend the management of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and conduct a comprehensive investigation into its operations.

During an exclusive interview, Muhammad expressed the need for a forensic audit of the NNPCL’s accounts. He highlighted that many stakeholders in the energy sector have long advocated for such an investigation, emphasizing that the lack of accountability and management issues within the company must be addressed.

Muhammad stated, “This has not been done under former President Muhammadu Buhari, and I think the present administration should take the bull by the horns to ensure we have a clean account at NNPCL. Allegations of financial misappropriation and management deficiencies are serious concerns.”

The analyst criticized the NNPCL’s management under Mele Kyari, which has failed to fulfill promises regarding fuel storage and operational improvements. He called for a new management team that could bring fresh ideas and vision to resolve ongoing issues in the energy sector.

“Things have not been normal; everything is stagnant,” Muhammad noted. “As a patriotic Nigerian, I am joining the call for a thorough investigation, which can only occur when the current management is suspended and interim leaders are appointed.”

Expressing frustration over the recent fuel price increase, he described the government’s actions as “highly insensitive and irresponsible.” Muhammad argued that this situation has opened avenues for the opposition to criticize the current administration.

“Nigerians have been pushed to the wall,” he added. “The soaring inflation caused by the hike in petrol prices necessitates a rethinking and intervention from the federal government.”

He contended that relying solely on market forces in the oil sector is inappropriate given the current economic climate. “Nigeria is blessed with mineral resources, and its citizens should benefit from this natural endowment,” Muhammad said, urging policymakers to avoid comparisons with developed nations that have robust institutions and transparency.

As an experienced businessman and politician, he advised President Tinubu to act swiftly or risk backlash during the 2027 general elections due to unpopular policies.

Muhammad also criticized the government’s decision to designate the NNPCL as the sole buyer of Dangote refined petrol, arguing that this undermines a competitive market. “This monopolistic approach does not align with a liberal economy where multiple competitors should have the opportunity to participate,” he stated.

He warned that allowing the NNPCL to monopolize the purchase of Dangote’s refined petrol would be detrimental to both the economy and the general populace. Muhammad emphasized that government policies could impact the fortunes of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in upcoming elections.

Former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili, has called on Nigerians to stop targeting the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, with their frustrations regarding the state of the nation. She contends that the clergyman is being incorrectly singled out and is not to blame for Nigeria’s current difficulties.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ezekwesili emphasized the following points in her statement:

  • She characterized Adeboye as a humble servant of God who has spent his life advocating for peace and national development.

  • While acknowledging that many Nigerians want religious leaders to be more vocal in demanding government accountability, she maintained that Adeboye has consistently offered prayers and spoken up for the nation.

  • She explained that long-standing issues—such as systemic corruption, economic hardship, and insecurity—have left Nigerians exhausted and deeply distrustful of politicians, institutions, and influential figures.

  • She warned that the country has a tendency to prioritize less significant issues rather than addressing urgent national crises.

  • Ezekwesili noted that while Adeboye typically responds to criticism with “dignified silence,” she felt compelled to speak publicly to refocus attention on the “urgency of this moment” and the core issue: the need for religious leaders to help rescue the nation from “ineffectual, corrupt, and selfish politicians”.

  • Many employees were unable to reach their workplaces due to these movement restrictions.

  • Heavy traffic congestion occurred along the corridors of the Supreme Court, the National Assembly, and the Federal Secretariat, leaving many commuters stranded and forcing others to find alternative routes.

The demonstration, organized by human rights activist and African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore alongside the Take It Back Movement, was planned to begin at Eagle Square before moving toward the Presidential Villa. The primary goal of the protest is to demand the immediate release of all victims kidnapped nationwide. Furthermore, organizers have called for President Bola Tinubu to either ensure the safety and release of the captives or resign, citing a perceived failure of the government to protect citizens. This protest reflects growing public outcry regarding the frequency of school attacks and kidnappings, as well as a broader demand for increased accountability and improved security across Nigeria.
