Earlier, Minister of Works David Umahi expressed disappointment during an unscheduled visit to the project site, citing the slow pace of work and the use of sub-standard materials by the contractor despite a government advance payment of N33 billion.

However, the new directive, outlined in a statement by the minister’s Special Adviser on Media, Orji Uchenna, on Monday, indicates a reversal of the decision after a meeting with the Permanent Secretary and key Directors of the Ministry at the ministry headquarters in Abuja.

The statement reads, “The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has directed Reynolds Construction Company (RCC), Nigeria Limited, to immediately resume work on the 15 km Eleme to Onne Junction on the East-West Road, Rivers State, which he suspended during his unscheduled inspection visit to the project site on 27th January 2024, due to observed infractions on the construction specifications.”

“This directive is in accordance with the resolutions reached in a meeting with the Permanent Secretary and key Directors of the Ministry together with the management of RCC Ltd at his office at the Federal Ministry of Works, Mabushi-Abuja, on 29th January 2024. The Honourable Minister had ordered the suspension of work on the project due to substandard jobs and invited the management of the company to report to the Ministry for the resolution of technical issues.”

Anyim: South-East Needs Inter-Regional Alliances to Clinch Presidency

In a separate political development, former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim has asserted that politicians from the South-East cannot attain the presidency in isolation and must forge solid alliances with other geopolitical zones.

Anyim, who recently transitioned from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC), made this known during an interview with Arise News.

Key takeaways from Anyim’s remarks include:

  • The Power of Coalitions: Drawing from his personal political experience, Anyim noted that no single region can secure the presidency without cross-regional backing, leading to his decision to align with the APC.

THE ULTIMATE DOWN-STAND: Rival Jigawa ADC Camps Bow To Atiku, Sign Pact To Bury Legal Hatchet!

Published

on

The two warring factions of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa State have finally agreed to bury the hatchet and put an end to their prolonged legal battles over the party’s governorship ticket, following a high-level intervention led by party heavyweight Atiku Abubakar.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The breakthrough comes after weeks of intense friction within the state chapter over the primary elections and the official candidate list. During a reconciliation meeting convened by Atiku, ADC National Chairman Senator David Mark, and other national leaders, the factions were directed to withdraw all pending lawsuits and throw their weight behind the candidates already recognized and published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Key details of the reconciliation include:

  • The Core Dispute: The legal showdown involved camps led by Senator Sabo Muhammad Nakudu and Hon. Bashir Adamu Jimbo. Nakudu’s camp had challenged candidate uploads, while Jimbo’s group contested Nakudu’s eligibility over alleged primary irregularities.

  • Mutual Agreement: Both leaders formally accepted the peace terms and signed an agreement to withdraw their respective cases covering governorship, running mate, and legislative slots.

  • A Call for Unity: Hailing the resolution, Atiku emphasized that while political competition is natural, true strength lies in a party’s capacity to rise above division, urging all members to unite for the collective task ahead.

With the internal legal hurdles cleared, the ADC leadership in Jigawa State has reaffirmed its commitment to moving forward as a united front with mutual trust and shared purpose.
