Alhaji Idris explained that following the removal of fuel subsidy, President Bola Tinubu initially pledged a N25,000 wage award to workers to mitigate the impact of the subsidy removal. However, after negotiations with Labour, an agreement was reached for a N35,000 wage award, which President Tinubu committed to paying for six months, from September 2023 to February 2024.

He stated, “After the payment of the wage award for six months, in March, the government and Labour will come together again to deliberate on a new minimum wage for workers.” Emphasizing the intention of President Tinubu to address the welfare and well-being of all Nigerians, Alhaji Idris urged Nigerians to give President Tinubu the time needed to implement measures for the country’s improvement.
