The PDP candidate from the March governorship election contested the Court of Appeal’s ruling, which led to his dismissal as governor.

Following the unanimous decision by the appeal court in November, which asserted that Muftwang was not endorsed by the PDP, Nentawe Yilwada of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared the winner of the March 18, 2023, governorship election.

Governor Muftwang sought redress from the Supreme Court in response to the Court of Appeal’s decision. Justice Emmanuel Agim delivered the judgment on Friday.

Justice Agim clarified that the High Court’s order did not affect the party’s authority to conduct PDP primaries but rather pertained to the nomination of Governor Muftwang as the party’s candidate for the gubernatorial election. Despite this, the justice noted that there was evidence indicating the PDP’s compliance with the Plateau State High Court’s order.

During an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Muftwang expressed gratitude to the president for not interfering with the Supreme Court verdict, despite being affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC). The governor commended the justices for ruling in accordance with their conscience and the law, acknowledging their independence in delivering the verdict. He stated, “He allowed their lordships to do their work, and they did it according to the dictates of their conscience and the law. I am proud of that.”

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has sharply criticized Governor Seyi Makinde, labeling his recent statements regarding the state’s security challenges as a misunderstanding of his constitutional role. State APC spokesperson, Olawale Sadare, dismissed the governor’s claim that he is limited in addressing insecurity because security structures are under federal control.
