Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and the immediate-past governor of the state, Sen. The late Lawson, aged 72 and founder of Alaba Lawson Group of Schools, passed away on October 28 after a brief illness.

As a foremost educationist, philanthropist, and advocate for women’s rights, she also held the distinction of being the first female National President of the National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture.

In his tribute, Governor Abiodun hailed the deceased as an illustrious daughter of Ogun State, expressing pride in her accomplishments. He acknowledged her significant impact on the lives of many children through the establishment of Lawson Group of Schools, emphasizing her role as a role model for the youth. Abiodun also commended her advocacy for women’s rights and her cultural adherence.

In his sermon, Most Rev. Julius Abbe, Primate of the African Church, eulogized the late Lawson as a kind and generous woman who positively influenced the lives of those around her. He emphasized her commitment to truth, justice, and her role as a defender of the defenseless and a champion for the poor.

Abbe took the opportunity to call on the government to address the hardships faced by the people due to the removal of fuel subsidies, urging action to alleviate the suffering of the less privileged.

The late Chief Mrs Lawson was laid to rest at the Alaba Lawson Group of Schools, Kuto, Abeokuta. Other dignitaries present included Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele, former deputy governors Alhaja Salmot Badru and Yetunde Onanuga, APC Chairman Yemi Sanusi, and musician-evangelist Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi.
