“I’m Still Drinking Tonight” – Oshiomhole Cheers Sack Of Petroleum Regulators, Hails Tinubu’s Action.

According to Nivo News, former Edo State Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has openly celebrated the resignation of Engr. Farouk Ahmed and Mr. Gbenga Komolafe from Nigeria’s petroleum regulatory agencies, describing their exit as a critical step toward safeguarding the nation’s economic future.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Oshiomhole made the remarks on Thursday during the Senate screening of nominees submitted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for leadership positions in Nigeria’s petroleum regulatory institutions. The exercise was conducted by the Joint Senate Committee on Upstream, Midstream, Downstream and Gas.

President Tinubu had forwarded the names of Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as the proposed Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as the proposed Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority for confirmation. Their nominations followed the resignations of Engineer Farouk Ahmed, former head of the NMDPRA, and Gbenga Komolafe, former chief executive of the NUPRC, both appointed in 2021 under the Petroleum Industry Act.

The leadership changes came amid a public dispute involving the former NMDPRA boss and President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, who had accused the regulator of frustrating domestic refining through the issuance of petroleum import licences and raised allegations of corruption.

Speaking during the screening, Oshiomhole criticised what he described as damaging policy decisions under the outgoing leadership, insisting that their removal was long overdue. He said he celebrated the development the previous night and had no regrets about doing so again.

While acknowledging the qualifications of Engineer Mohammed, Oshiomhole stressed that competence alone was not the issue but rather the policy direction adopted by the former regulators. He argued that nations across the world deliberately protect local industries to stimulate job creation and economic growth.

According to him, meaningful employment cannot be achieved through sympathy but through intentional support for labour-intensive sectors such as refining and manufacturing. He lamented that despite the issuance of multiple refinery licences over the years, policies pursued under the previous leadership encouraged importation and weakened local refining capacity.

Oshiomhole further alleged that domestic refinery assets were deliberately undermined, a situation he described as contrary to Nigeria’s national interest. He warned that anyone who prioritises importation over local production has no business managing the country’s critical petroleum sector.

He urged the newly nominated officials to place national interest above commercial convenience, noting that the survival of local refineries directly affects Nigerian workers and families. The former labour leader also commended President Tinubu for taking what he described as decisive action, saying the move had restored hope to Nigerians who rely on the sector for jobs and economic stability.

During the session, Senator representing Taraba South, David Jimkuta, aligned himself with Oshiomhole’s position and jokingly promised to join in celebrating the resignations. He, however, pressed the nominees to clearly outline how they intend to change the system and address public concerns about the petroleum sector, urging them to present concrete solutions rather than rhetoric.

Kwara PDP Protests As Govt Moves To Reopen Robbery Case Against Saraki, Others.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has strongly opposed reported moves by the state government to revisit the alleged Offa robbery case involving former Governor Abubakar Bukola Saraki and others.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that the party made its position known during an emergency press conference in Ilorin on Friday, describing the development as politically motivated and unjust.

PDP spokesman, Comrade Olushola Adewara, said the alleged plan to reopen the case amounts to an attempt to politicise a matter that has already been concluded by the courts.

He alleged that the move was targeted at dragging Saraki into a case in which, according to him, legal authorities had previously found no evidence linking him to the incident.

Adewara referenced earlier legal opinions from the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, which reportedly stated that Saraki was not connected to the robbery case.

The party insisted that suspects in the case had already been prosecuted and convicted, with judgments upheld at appellate levels, while the matter is currently before the Supreme Court.

PDP urged Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to focus on governance rather than what it described as attempts to revive old political narratives.

It also called on security agencies to monitor the situation closely, warning that such actions could heighten political tension in the state.

The party further appealed to residents, especially families of victims in Offa, not to allow their pain to be used for political purposes.

reports that Showunmi made the announcement during a courtesy visit to the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) secretariat in Abeokuta on Friday.

He called for a broad political coalition involving opposition parties and grassroots groups to challenge what he described as the failures of dominant political forces in the state.

Showunmi argued that political parties may choose or endorse candidates, but insisted such arrangements must not deny voters a genuine electoral choice.

Nigerian Army Issues Stern Warning To Okuama Community

He said: “I will be running for governor in the 2027 governorship election. I have come to plead with you to set up a small committee… to determine how we can collaborate to make this happen.”

He also questioned whether Ogun State would experience a “coronation” or a competitive election process, urging stakeholders to allow open political contest.

The PDP chieftain noted that Ogun West’s long-standing exclusion from producing a governor is a legitimate grievance, but stressed that aspirations must still be tested through competition.

He advocated issue-based campaigns ahead of 2027, rejecting “money politics” and challenging aspirants to public debates on governance.

Showunmi maintained that he has no history of violence or political thuggery, insisting the election should be centred on ideas and development plans for the state.

In response, IPAC leadership and other political actors at the event called for collaboration and careful selection of leaders ahead of the 2027 elections.
