In a statement released on September 28, 2024, and signed by co-conveners Ibrahim Kachia and Solomon Maiyaki, along with other key members, the coalition highlighted how the APC’s well-structured internal framework has enabled it to address pressing national issues effectively.

“The APC has established itself as a party of development, actively promoting inclusive governance and policies that resonate with the populace,” the coalition stated. “This proactive approach enhances the APC’s appeal to voters who desire a party that not only listens to their concerns but also takes meaningful action to resolve them. Additionally, the APC’s emphasis on infrastructure development and economic innovation aligns with Nigerians’ aspirations for improvement in their quality of life. This positioning as a party of change has successfully attracted voters seeking good governance.”

However, the coalition expressed concern regarding the current state of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as an opposition entity, questioning its credibility amidst ongoing internal conflicts. The coalition pointed to recent elections, including the governorship election in Edo State, as indicative of the PDP’s precarious situation.

Recent developments in Kaduna State, particularly in Southern Kaduna, have underscored the diminishing influence of the PDP. The coalition noted the exodus of key figures from the party, including Senator Shehu Sani and about 10,000 supporters, as a troubling trend driving political migration towards the APC.

The coalition warned that the political landscape in Southern Kaduna, traditionally a PDP stronghold since 1999, may undergo significant changes. It highlighted the potential departure of influential political figures such as Senator Danjuma Laah and Andrew Yakubu, alongside thousands of their supporters.

The coalition attributed the PDP’s declining popularity in the region to its inability to maintain a united front, effectively manage internal conflicts, and deliver tangible benefits to its supporters. In contrast, it noted the APC’s capacity to unify its members around shared objectives, positioning it well to leverage the PDP’s fragmentation to maintain power.

The coalition urged politicians and the electorate in Southern Kaduna to align with the APC for developmental progress, taking advantage of President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda and Governor Uba Sani’s initiatives for rural transformation.

“It is essential that loyalty to the PDP be based on practical benefits rather than sentiment,” the statement emphasized. “Aligning with parties that genuinely offer governance opportunities will shape the future of political representation in the region. The vibrant youth and women of Southern Kaduna must unite to strengthen the APC as a vehicle for real progress and development. The time for change is now, and we must prioritize tangible benefits.”

Regarding the PDP’s potential to regain its status as a viable opposition party, the coalition urged a focus on accountability and inclusiveness. “The PDP must demonstrate strong leadership and present a united front to reconnect with the electorate,” the coalition concluded.
