Nigerians React To PDP Youth Protest, Urging NJC Review Of Court Of Appeal Rulings....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Jos, the capital of Plateau State, and its surroundings continue to witness ongoing protests following recent Court of Appeal rulings that ousted certain members of the National Assembly from the state.

The National Youths Movement (NYM) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is urging the National Judicial Council (NJC) to reassess the recent Court of Appeal decisions. Thousands of youths from all 17 local government areas peacefully marched through the streets of Jos, displaying various placards expressing their dissatisfaction with the judgments. These rulings led to the removal of six PDP National Assembly lawmakers, mandating a rerun in the Plateau North Senatorial zone within 90 days. Additionally, some lost their certificates of return, which were subsequently awarded to candidates of the APC and the Labour Party.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Sele Prama, the Chairperson of the movement, criticized the judgments, asserting that the appellate court’s grounds for removing the lawmakers were purely related to pre-election matters. She emphasized that these decisions have deprived the people of Plateau of effective representation at the national level.

Prama called for the NJC to thoroughly review the judgments, and she appealed to Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, the President of the Court of Appeal and a daughter of the state, to intervene.

Dang Choji, a PDP official in Jos North Local Government Area, insisted that the PDP adhered to the court’s directives by repeating its congress after the initial one. He argued that the recent judgments are a conspiracy to undermine the people’s will, and he pledged that the youth would continue their peaceful protests until justice is achieved.

Victor Meshach, a member of NYM, urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene, emphasizing that the issue revolves around the nomination of candidates and should be challenged by a member of the party.

Recalling a previous peaceful protest, where youths from all 17 local governments called on the NJC to review the judgments, the report highlighted the lawmakers sacked by the appeal court, including Senator Simon Mwadkwon (Plateau North) and Sen. Napoleon Bali (Plateau South), as well as four members of the House of Representatives. The protesters gathered at various locations, expressing their discontent through solidarity songs and placards.
