Breaking: INEC Affirms Election Continuity Despite November 11 Labor Strike (Details)

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has affirmed that the ongoing organized labor protest will not impact the gubernatorial elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa states. Emanuella Ben-Opara, the Head of the Department of Voter Education and Publicity for INEC in Imo State, reassured the public during a media briefing in Owerri regarding the state’s election preparations.
Ben-Opara highlighted that the Commission received assurance from the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), emphasizing that the NURTW is not affiliated with the labor union currently protesting. She mentioned that vehicles sourced from the NURTW are present and ready to facilitate the transportation of personnel and materials to all polling units.
Additionally, Ben-Opara disclosed that all Registration Area Centers have been activated for the scheduled deployment of sensitive and non-sensitive materials on Friday night. Addressing concerns about security, she assured residents that security agencies have identified potential flashpoints and pledged to maintain a conducive environment throughout the entire electoral process.
In summary, the INEC representative affirmed that the labor protest would not disrupt the governorship elections, citing the cooperation of the NURTW and the heightened security measures in place for a smooth electoral process.
