A resident of Ibadan, Oyo State, whose identity is being withheld, fell victim to a scam perpetrated by a lady he encountered on Facebook. The individual, known as “Ara Ire” on the social media platform, later identified as Mercy Adeseye, exploited the man’s trust by falsely claiming an interest in a romantic relationship and requesting funds for purported travel expenses.

Despite the man sending an undisclosed sum of money, ‘Ara Ire’ never fulfilled her promise to visit and ceased all communication with him. Speaking to Vanguard, the duped man expressed his disappointment, revealing that the lady, a student at Crestfield College of Health Technology in Erin Osun, Osun State, had never met him in person, relying solely on their online interactions.

Regretfully, he shared, “I was deceived by a scammer who utilized Facebook to manipulate me. She led me to believe she would visit, but it was all a ruse to extract money from me. I feel violated and betrayed. I should have exercised more caution, but I became entangled in the illusion of what she was assuring me. As soon as I sent the money, she vanished and cut off all communication with me.”
