On her 35th birthday, Nigerian sprinter Blessing Okagbare issued a heartfelt appeal to the public. The Olympic medalist, through her verified Instagram page, requested assistance in raising funds for Emmanuel Oguma, the father of young athlete Ese Oguma, who requires a kidney transplant.
Okagbare shared, “Special Birthday Request. If you’re close to me, you already know I do these things privately without putting it out there for public consumption. As a special birthday request, I want everyone to join me as we raise funds to Save a life… it means a lot to me, the family, and everyone that loves this individual. Thanks and God bless you all.

Currently, $691 has been raised toward the $26,000 target.
Additionally, Blessing Okagbare seemingly accepted a 10-year ban imposed on her by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) Disciplinary Tribunal last year. The 33-year-old sprinter faced the ban for allegedly violating multiple anti-doping rules. As a result of this development, Nigeria’s 2008 long jump silver medalist was expelled from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics before the women’s 100m semi-finals after testing positive for human growth hormone during an out-of-competition test in Slovakia on July 19.
Despite her denial of taking the prohibited substances through injection or any means, Okagbare emphasized her history of ‘negative’ tests, including 10 out of 12 tests conducted between April 16, 2021, and July 30, 2021.
