A reconciliation meeting was convened at the Benin residence of the party’s leader, former governor and current senator, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. During this meeting, Hon Pius Odubu, the former deputy governor, was also designated as the party’s leader in Edo South senatorial district.

A party leader who attended the meeting, wishing to remain anonymous, shared, “All suspended party members, from the unit level to the ward, local government, and state, were all invited to return. The primary goal of the meeting was to foster unity within the party, especially in Edo South, where there was no clear leader or rallying point. During the meeting, we established Odubu as the leader of the APC in Edo South, providing us with a leader to turn to and convene party meetings when necessary.”

“The issue of Edo Central also came up during the meeting, with one party leader being criticized for his role in the previous election due to his anger, which led to actions against the party. However, he was also forgiven as Comrade Oshiomhole, the party leader, called for the lifting of all suspensions.”

“The meeting was exclusively by invitation, primarily for veteran party leaders, who will carry the message back to their constituents. Oshiomhole successfully put an end to the leadership conflicts within the party. Although a few leaders expressed reservations about Odubu’s emergence, the majority’s views prevailed. As a result, the party is now moving forward toward the election as a united and cohesive family,” the source added.

He expressed confidence that the President would find the wisdom and strength to resolve these issues, regardless of their origins. Furthermore, the Minister affirmed that the government remains focused on completing all ongoing infrastructure projects within their planned timelines.

Calls for Resignation from Opposition Groups

Conversely, the Conference of United Political Parties (CUPP) has issued a demand for President Tinubu’s resignation, citing persistent economic hardship and national insecurity. Supported by the House of Representatives Minority Caucus, acting National Chairman Peter Ameh argued that the current administration has failed to produce the necessary results for good governance. The statement emphasized that leadership is a responsibility rather than a right, suggesting that the honorable path for an official who cannot alleviate citizens’ suffering is to step down.
