Tribunal Decision: PDP’s Lawal Usman Retains Kaduna Central Senatorial Seat....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a verdict issued by the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Kaduna State, Lawal Usman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has had his election as the Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly upheld. The challenge to his victory came from Muhammad Abdullahi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, who raised four key points in his petition.

Abdullahi argued that Usman’s nomination by the PDP did not align with the Electoral Act, and that he lacked proper sponsorship from the PDP for the election. Additionally, the APC candidate raised doubts about the authenticity of Usman’s educational qualifications and claimed that there was over-voting during the election.

However, the three-member tribunal panel, led by Justice H.H. Kereng, dismissed the petition on the basis of insufficient merit. Justice Kereng, in delivering the verdict, clarified that the petitioners failed to provide conclusive evidence that Usman’s National Examination Council (NECO) results and other academic credentials, which he had submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), were forged.

The Tribunal further emphasized that the petitioners were unable to demonstrate that the first respondent (Usman) was not duly elected as the candidate with the majority of votes in the February 25 election. Consequently, the Tribunal dismissed the petition and affirmed Usman’s election as the legitimately elected Senator for Kaduna Central Senatorial District under the PDP.

reports that a video of the incident has gone viral on , showing the moment the actress confronted the men during the shoot.

In the clip, the men are seen approaching the set and insisting on a “settlement,” a common form of extortion reportedly targeted at film crews working in public spaces across Lagos.

Ademoye, speaking in a blend of English and Nigerian Pidgin, made it clear she was not opposed to appreciating people around her set but would not accept forceful demands.

“I am a street girl, let me tell you. Ask around, when it comes to matters of the street, I like settling boys. But you don’t come to me and tell me to give you a certain amount,” she said.

When one of the men insisted he was not there to beg, she quickly countered, saying: “Yes, you came to beg. You are even being proud of it.”

Tension rose when one of the men threatened to turn off her camera, prompting Ademoye to respond sharply: “Camera that nobody in your generation has.”

Although the confrontation was tense, the situation did not escalate physically, and no weapons were seen in the video. The shoot was visibly disrupted by the presence and demands of the group.

The incident has since generated reactions online, with many social media users praising the actress for her calmness, confidence, and refusal to be intimidated during the encounter.

Turaki-Led PDP Faction Raises Alarm, Describes Supreme Court Ruling As ‘Dangerous Bend’.

The Taminu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticised the Supreme Court judgment that nullified the party’s national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement issued by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the group described the ruling as a “dangerous bend” for the party.

reports that the Supreme Court, in a split 3–2 decision delivered on Thursday, dismissed the appeal filed by the Turaki-led faction, with three justices holding that the case lacked merit.

The faction argued that the judgment has effectively left the PDP without clear leadership.

Ememobong expressed confidence that the party’s existing structures would intervene to stabilise the situation and restore leadership direction moving forward.

According to the statement, the Supreme Court panel, led by Justice Mohammed Garba, upheld the decisions of the Court of Appeal and the Federal High Court which nullified the Ibadan convention.

The majority judgment—delivered by Justices Chioma Nwosu-Iheme, Stephen Adah, and Garba—held that the appellants acted in contempt of a subsisting Federal High Court order. They ruled that parties in contempt could not be heard by the apex court, leading to the dismissal of the appeal.

However, the minority judgment delivered by Justices Haruna Tsammani and Abubakar Umar held a different view. They ruled that the dispute was an internal party matter and therefore not justiciable in court.

They further argued that the Federal High Court was not dealing with any action involving a government agency, but rather a leadership tussle within the PDP, which should not have been adjudicated by the courts.

The dissenting justices also faulted the majority for raising issues on its own without giving parties the opportunity to respond, stating that such an approach contradicts established Supreme Court practice.

They insisted that courts must not determine issues not properly argued by the parties before them.

The judgment also affirmed the Court of Appeal’s decision suspending certain party officials, including Ajibade, SAN, and Anyanwu.

Reacting to the outcome, the faction said the ruling places the PDP in a precarious position and warned that it could have wider implications for Nigeria’s multi-party democracy if not carefully managed.

However, it maintained optimism that the party’s internal organs would take steps to resolve the crisis and restore leadership stability.

Meanwhile, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticised the Tinubu administration over what he described as rising public debt and increasing government borrowing.

In a statement released on Thursday, Obi said countries must avoid reckless borrowing without a clear and productive repayment plan.

He argued that many of the loans being taken by the current administration do not meet legal requirements or basic economic logic.

reports that Obi’s comments come in response to President Tinubu’s recent remark that debt is not a “leprosy.”

However, Obi disagreed, insisting that borrowing could become dangerous if mismanaged, describing it as something that can turn into a “leprosy” or even a “deadly cancer” when not properly directed.

He further expressed concern that Nigeria’s borrowing pattern appears to be focused more on consumption than on productive investment.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain urged the Tinubu administration to ensure that borrowed funds are effectively utilised for the benefit of Nigerians, rather than being justified without tangible impact on development.
