Dogara Abandons APC For PDP .

Yakubu Dogara, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress to join the Peoples Democratic Party.

This comes just 48 hours after Dogara and some disgruntled northern APC leaders proclaimed their support for the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Following several months of political maneuvering, the Northern Elders Consultative Forum, which included Christian leaders in the All Progressives Congress in the North, publicly backed Atiku on Friday.

According to them, Atiku was chosen as a result of the Northern Christian leaders’ determination to unite with their Muslim counterparts to support one of the presidential candidates in order to defeat the APC’s same-faith presidential ticket.
During the presidential campaign, Dogara was welcomed into the party by the party’s presidential candidate and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, in the nation’s commercial metropolis, Lagos State.

Dogara left the PDP in 2020 to join the APC.

Back then, the chairman of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Committee, Mai Mala Buni, told State House correspondents that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd. ), was pleased to have Dogara return to the party.
Dogara not only endorsed Atiku but also switched to the opposition party because the Dogara-led Northern Elders Consultative Forum felt the APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket was a negative for the ruling party.

According to the panel, the selection was based on the PDP’s existing structure, the capacity of the candidates, proof of national penetration, religious and ethnic balance, and other factors.

In terms of political structure, the APC and PDP are nearly equal, but the APC’s albatross is the “unfortunate self-inflicted divisive same-faith-ticket which cannot guarantee the desired peace, unity, and cohesion in Nigeria, a decision that has been kicked against by a huge population of Nigerians.”
Dogara was chosen as a member of the PDP Campaign Council on Sunday.

Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, who also serves as the Director-General of the PDP PCO, announced the appointment in a statement on Sunday.

“The leadership of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council wishes to formally announce that Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara has been appointed as a member of the Presidential Campaign Council with immediate effect,” the statement said.
