PDP Pledges Unity, Fair Elections at Ibadan Convention
IBADAN, Nigeria (AP) — The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its commitment to unity and fair elections as it prepares for its upcoming National Convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, emphasized the need for the convention to be fair, inclusive, and anchored on open debate to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. He stated that anything short of this would undermine the party’s efforts to regain public trust and electoral success. Makinde’s remarks were published in a newsletter released on Thursday evening.
The PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC), during its 101st meeting in July, described the convention as a pathway to restructure and revive the party’s fortunes. Makinde echoed this sentiment, insisting that PDP leaders and delegates must rise to the occasion. He highlighted the recent PDP Oyo State congress, which was held without rancor, as a positive example to follow. Makinde expressed hope for the Ibadan convention, viewing it as a major win for the party, democracy, and the people.
The convention is expected to elect 19 new members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). Stakeholders view this as a defining moment for the PDP, offering an opportunity to consolidate its strength and address internal challenges. The event is seen as a litmus test for the party’s readiness to confront the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
Governor Makinde emphasized that the lessons from the Oyo congress should guide the national gathering. He called for a convention grounded in fair processes, open debate, inclusivity, and respect, which would not only strengthen the party internally but also send a powerful message that politics can be dignified. Makinde believes that such an approach will demonstrate that the PDP can manage disagreement without disunity and channel ambition into constructive progress rather than conflict.
The PDP has been facing internal divisions, with factions and competing interests still simmering across state chapters. Analysts believe that the conduct of the convention will either consolidate or weaken the party’s credibility. Makinde’s latest remarks are being interpreted as a call for restraint, compromise, and transparency in a contest that could shape the PDP’s national leadership for years to come.
The Ibadan convention is expected to serve as both a test of unity and a platform for the PDP to present a unified front to tackle Nigeria’s pressing economic and social issues. Stakeholders hope that the event will foster reconciliation among party members, heal past divisions, and build a cohesive platform to advance the PDP’s vision. Through dialogue and collaboration, the party aims to emerge stronger and more united.
As the convention approaches, all eyes are on the PDP to see if it can deliver a fair, inclusive, and transparent process that will pave the way for a successful 2027 electoral campaign.

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has announced that the Bama IDP camp, which is the state’s largest such facility outside of Maiduguri, is scheduled to close within the next month. The governor confirmed this directive following a visit to the Government Science Secondary School, which currently serves as the site for the camp. This initiative is a core component of the administration’s broader strategy to resolve long-term displacement in the Bama Local Government Area and facilitate the return of families to their ancestral homes.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Resettlement and Screening Process During his visit, Governor Zulum personally oversaw a three-hour screening process intended to verify the households included in the resettlement program. He noted that this step is essential for accurately identifying the remaining families before the camp is permanently shuttered.
-
The government has already finalized the screening of male household heads from the impacted regions.
-
Resettlement efforts are currently focused on three remaining communities: Mayanti, Goniri, and Bula Kuriye.
-
Over the past seven years, the administration has successfully facilitated the return of several other communities, including Banki, Nguro Soye, Darajamal, Goniri, and Abbaram.
Context of Recovery Bama was severely impacted by the Boko Haram insurgency, which led to the widespread displacement of thousands and halted local economic and social activities. 27 Days Of Terror: Makinde Breaks Silence On Missing Pupils Held Deep Within Old Oyo National Park!.
In his recent newsletter, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde confirmed that students and teachers kidnapped 27 days ago from schools in Yawota and Ahoro-Esinle (Oriire Local Government Area) are still believed to be held within the expansive Old Oyo National Park. The governor acknowledged the immense distress and uncertainty facing the affected families, noting that while his previous promises of a safe return may now seem hollow to those waiting, the state remains fully committed to their rescue.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Governor Makinde explained that due to the sensitive nature of the mission, he cannot disclose specific tactical details. However, he highlighted that the primary obstacle is the sheer scale and difficult terrain of the Old Oyo National Park, which covers approximately 2,500 square kilometers across 10 local government areas. He emphasized that the rescue requires ongoing coordination, persistence, and patience from the public.
Call for Public Support and Caution To aid the ongoing efforts, the governor urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the state’s toll-free emergency line, 615. He also issued a strong warning against the spread of misinformation, which he noted could potentially jeopardize the safety of the captives and undermine the security agencies’ work. Makinde concluded by asking the public to continue supporting the security services and to rely solely on official communication for accurate updates.

Political Earthquake: Atiku Shakes Up 2027 Race With Shock Amaechi Vice-Presidential Pick!.
Barring any last-minute shifts, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reportedly selected former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi as his running mate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the January 16, 2027, presidential election. This decision follows a private meeting between the two in Abuja on June 8, signaling the formation of an “AA” ticket that pairs Atiku from the North-East with Amaechi from the South-South. Political analysts view this pairing as a strategic move to broaden the ADC’s national appeal and compete effectively against the ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso on the Nigeria Democratic Congress platform.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Negotiation and Internal Dynamics Although Amaechi initially rejected the prospect of a vice-presidential role—having previously purchased a presidential nomination form and pushed for direct primaries—reports indicate he ultimately accepted the position following intense advocacy from influential leaders across the North-West and South-South. Supporters state that Atiku has guaranteed Amaechi a substantive role in both the campaign and the potential administration. This collaboration marks a notable shift in strategy for Atiku, contrasting with his 2023 decision-making process. The alliance has also been defended by ADC chieftain Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, who recently countered claims that Amaechi had rejected the offer, warning that such speculation could breed unnecessary internal mistrust.
Atiku’s Critique of the Current Administration In a separate statement marking Democracy Day, Atiku Abubakar expressed deep concern over the current state of Nigeria’s democratic institutions. He accused the Tinubu-led APC administration of engaging in “democratic backsliding” and deliberately weakening the opposition through orchestrated leadership crises, intimidation, and the misuse of state institutions, including anti-graft agencies and the judiciary. Atiku urged citizens to uphold the legacy of June 12 by resisting what he described as partisan warfare, emphasizing that the sacrifices made by pro-democracy activists will only retain their significance if the public actively defends the nation’s democratic freedoms against erosion.
