During his address on behalf of President Tinubu, Shettima called for a restructuring of global governance structures, insisting that Africa must be granted permanent representation on the UN Security Council.
He emphasized that African nations can no longer remain sidelined on critical global affairs, noting that international geopolitical structures in 2026 should no longer be defined by power distributions established in 1945.
Opposition Raises Questions Over Presidential Power Transfer
Meanwhile, Paul Ibe, media adviser to African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, criticized President Bola Tinubu’s extended stay in France amid mounting economic and security challenges back home.
Posting on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Ibe questioned why the President had not formally transmitted power to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas to allow Vice President Shettima to assume the role of Acting President during his extended absence.
