Nigeria’s Super Eagles have departed for Guinea-Bissau as they prepare to face the Djurtus in their second Group L match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The squad took off from Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Sunday following a final morning training session under head coach Eric Chelle.

High Stakes in Group L

Nigeria opened its qualification run on Friday with a 2-1 victory over Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium. However, Guinea-Bissau currently tops Group L on goal difference following a 2-0 victory against Tanzania in their opening match.

With only the group winner guaranteed direct qualification to AFCON 2027—since co-hosts Tanzania hold an automatic spot—the upcoming fixture carries significant weight for Nigeria’s campaign.

Clash Set for Tuesday

The Super Eagles will take on Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday, September 29, at the 24 de Setembro National Stadium in Bissau.

The match presents an opportunity for Nigeria to assert dominance against a side that delivered a surprise 1-0 defeat to the Super Eagles in Abuja during the 2023 AFCON qualifiers. Across four previous meetings between the two nations, that 2023 victory remains Guinea-Bissau’s sole win against Nigeria.
