The Oyo State Government has refuted viral reports claiming that teachers and students abducted during last Friday’s attack on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area have been released.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The state government described the social media claims as false, insisting that the victims remained in captivity as of Thursday morning.

The Special Adviser on Security to Governor Seyi Makinde, Abayomi Fagbenro, dismissed the reports after several online posts circulated on Wednesday night alleging that the abducted victims had regained their freedom.

The attack took place in the Ahoro-Esinle/Yawota axis of Ogbomoso in Oriire LGA, where armed men invaded three schools, killing at least two people and abducting about 30 teachers and students.

As the rumours spread online, mixed reactions followed, with some users claiming the victims had been freed while others questioned the reports due to lack of official confirmation from security agencies or major media outlets.

Reacting on Thursday, Fagbenro confirmed that no such release had taken place, stating that the victims were still in captivity at the time of his response.

“As of 10:35 am, it’s not true,” he told Punch.

The spokesperson of the Oyo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, also said he was unaware of any release, adding that security operatives were still working to rescue the abducted victims.

Following the incident, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, ordered the deployment of additional detectives from Force Headquarters in Abuja to support ongoing rescue operations.
