Sporting Lagos are gearing up for life back in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with renewed confidence and a strong sense of purpose after securing promotion in dramatic fashion....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The club confirmed their return to the top flight after a two-year absence with a narrow 1-0 victory over Osun United on a tense final day in Ileogbo. The result ensured their place among Nigeria’s elite and marked what many inside the club see as a fresh beginning rather than a conclusion.

Speaking in an interview with Naija News, Sporting Lagos chairman Godwin Enakhena said the club’s second spell in the NPFL will reflect major improvements compared to their first appearance.

He noted that the club never lost momentum even during their time in the Nigeria National League (NNL), stressing that matchday experiences for fans remained vibrant with music, entertainment, giveaways, and a secure environment.

Enakhena added that supporters should expect an even more engaging atmosphere on their return to the NPFL, insisting that Sporting Lagos remain committed to delivering an unmatched fan experience.

On the pitch, Sporting Lagos secured promotion through a hard-fought campaign, with Alex Leme scoring the decisive goal in the 17th minute against Osun United. Goalkeeper Clinton Lawal played a crucial role late on, making key saves to preserve the lead.

The victory saw the club finish top of the NNL Conference B with 36 points, edging out Akwa United by a single point. Their promotion also means Lagos will now be represented by three clubs in the 2026–2027 NPFL season.

Reflecting on their previous NPFL stint, which ended in relegation on the final day of the 2023–2024 season, Enakhena said the experience provided valuable lessons that will guide their approach moving forward.

He reiterated the club’s long-term vision of competing for continental qualification while maintaining a strong identity built on community engagement, youth development and attractive football.

Sporting Lagos will now share the Mobolaji Johnson Arena (Onikan Stadium) with fellow Lagos sides Ikorodu City and Inter Lagos, due to limited NPFL-approved venues in the state.

Despite the logistical challenges, Enakhena expressed confidence that scheduling arrangements will ensure smooth operations for all three clubs.

The club also capped off their season by winning the NNL Super 4 title after a closely contested finish in Ikenne, further underlining their dominance in the second tier.

In addition, Sporting Lagos benefited financially from the betPawa Locker Room Bonus scheme, earning over ₦18 million across the campaign, with players and staff rewarded for their performances throughout the season.
