Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, has challenged rival presidential contenders to demonstrate their physical stamina after jumping off a stage during a campaign meeting in Akure, Ondo State, on Thursday, October 22.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Makinde performed the stunt at the APM South-West Presidential Campaign Town Hall Meeting held at the Ondo State International Conference Centre, popularly known as The Dome.

Addressing supporters, the governor said he would prioritise energy and the ability to withstand the demands of leadership rather than make age a central issue ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

“While I will not make age an issue of this campaign, I will make energy, having energy, being able to stay up late, have the rigours, have the energy to deal with the challenges that we’re faced as a country,” he said.

Makinde subsequently challenged other presidential candidates to replicate his demonstration, urging Nigerians to consider their physical fitness when deciding whom to support in the forthcoming election.

“So please, when they bring their own presidential candidate, let the candidate come here and also jump down! If they can do that, vote for them!” he added.

His demonstration was met with cheers and chants from supporters at the gathering.

The town hall meeting also provided a platform for the APM to present its policy proposals ahead of the 2027 general election. Makinde outlined a four-point agenda under the party’s “RESET Nigeria” platform, focusing on the economy, education, security and socio-political development.

The governor also criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of failing to fulfil its promises to Nigerians.

He pointed to persistent electricity challenges and fluctuations in petroleum prices as examples of the difficulties confronting households and businesses. Makinde questioned the government’s management of the economy and urged Nigerians to consider an alternative in 2027.

He described the forthcoming election as an opportunity for voters to reject the current administration, positioning the APM as an alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties.

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who attended the meeting, also expressed confidence in the APM’s electoral prospects, describing it as a major opposition movement.

Ebola Row: APC Challenges Atiku Over Tinubu Remarks, Calls For Focus On Public Health.

Published

on

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APC-PCC) has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his comments on the Federal Government’s handling of the reported Ebola case in Abuja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The council maintained that the ₦10 billion approved for Ebola emergency preparedness had not been spent, insisting that relevant government agencies had relied on other available resources to carry out surveillance and preparedness activities.

Atiku had, in a statement issued on Wednesday, accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of failing to account for the ₦10 billion earmarked for Ebola preparedness.

The former vice president called on the government to publish details of the fund’s disbursement, including payment dates, contracts, beneficiaries and items delivered. He also demanded an explanation if the money had not been released.

However, in a statement issued on Thursday, October 22, 2026, the APC-PCC spokesperson, Dele Alake, accused Atiku of politicising a public health emergency and making unsubstantiated allegations against the Tinubu administration.

Alake also faulted Atiku’s reported criticism of the Presidential Task Force on Ebola Preparedness and Emerging Public Health Threats, arguing that the opposition figure had raised questions about the utilisation of the emergency allocation without establishing that the money had been spent.

According to Alake, the ₦10 billion approved by the President in June for the Ebola emergency response remained untouched, while the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and other surveillance agencies used existing resources to carry out their duties.

In the statement, Alake accused Atiku of repeatedly making statements that disrespected the office of the President.

He said: “Alhaji Atiku Abubakar continues to foul up the political arena, with statement after statement dripping with insult and disrespect to the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“A statement credited to the former vice president on the latest public health issue opened with a title linking the President’s first name to Ebola and questioning how the Presidential Task Force spent the N10 billion approved for the emergency.”

Alake argued that linking Tinubu’s name to Ebola risked turning a serious public health concern into an opportunity to ridicule the President.

He also accused Atiku of demonstrating a lack of understanding of the virus, particularly regarding why the reported case involving a Nigerian traveller from Uganda was not detected upon arrival at the Abuja airport.

Explaining the disease’s incubation period, Alake said Ebola symptoms typically develop between two and 21 days after exposure, with symptoms commonly appearing within eight to 10 days.

He added that an infected person cannot transmit the virus to others before developing symptoms, arguing that this explained why the patient sought medical attention days after the initial exposure.

Alake further defended the work of the NCDC, FAAN and other agencies, saying their surveillance efforts at entry points helped alert authorities to the reported case and facilitated contact tracing involving 44 contacts of the patient.

He maintained that the agencies deserved commendation for their efforts to prevent the virus from spreading.

The APC-PCC spokesperson also dismissed suggestions attributed to Atiku’s camp that a ministerial briefing on the Ebola situation was intended to discourage Nigerians from attending campaign rallies or voting.

He described the allegation as speculative, insisting that serious claims of that nature required verifiable evidence.

Alake said the briefing focused on urging Nigerians to comply with the protocols announced by the Presidential Task Force rather than restricting political participation.

He urged Atiku and members of the opposition to refrain from politicising public health matters, stressing the need for cooperation with health authorities and professionals.

“We advise Atiku Abubakar and his hirelings to avoid politicising public health issues. A time like this demands that all Nigerians, including the opposition, rally around the health authorities and professionals, communicate responsibly, avoid rumour-mongering, and follow the protocols advised by the Task Force to ensure Ebola does not become a national epidemic,” he said.

Alake concluded that protecting Nigerians from the potentially deadly disease should remain the government’s foremost priority.

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has announced that its recruitment portal will reopen on October 28, 2026, for applicants who have advanced to the final stages of the ongoing recruitment exercise.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Reports that the portal will remain open until November 13, 2026, giving eligible candidates the opportunity to check their recruitment status and obtain codes required for mandatory drug screening.

The Board’s Secretary, Maj. Gen. A.M. Jibril (rtd), disclosed the development during the board’s second meeting of the year.

Jibril clarified that the reopening of the portal would not allow new applications, explaining that it was strictly for candidates already participating in the recruitment process.

He said applicants who had completed their medical screening, oral interviews and other required assessments would be able to confirm their status and obtain the codes needed for the drug test.

According to him, candidates who qualify for the next stage must visit designated National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) offices in their respective states for the compulsory screening.

He stressed that the Federal Government would bear the full cost of the exercise, adding that applicants would not be required to pay any fees.

Eligible candidates are expected to log in to the official recruitment portal, obtain their screening codes and present themselves at the designated NDLEA offices to provide samples for testing.

Jibril added that the results would be released immediately to enable successful candidates to proceed with the remaining recruitment procedures.

The board also warned applicants against making payments to individuals or organisations claiming they could facilitate the screening process.

He advised candidates who encounter such demands to report the incidents to the nearest security agency.

The board secretary further disclosed that applicants who successfully complete the drug screening and meet all other recruitment requirements would proceed to Abuja to collect their appointment letters.

He emphasised that proof that candidates are free from illegal drug use would be a compulsory requirement before their appointments could be finalised.

Jibril noted that the recruitment exercise is expected to produce 30,000 personnel for four federal paramilitary agencies: the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and Federal Fire Service (FFS).
