on

No fewer than 2,620 aspirants, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, state governors, senators, and members of the House of Representatives, are expected to know their fate today as the All Progressives Congress (APC) releases the list of cleared candidates for the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Also awaiting the outcome is President Tinubu’s sole challenger for the presidential ticket, Osifo Stanley, alongside several serving and former political office holders across different levels.

The publication of the list forms part of the APC’s preparations to meet the timetable of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), following a screening exercise conducted between May 8 and May 12.

Reports indicate that about 2,980 aspirants were screened for various positions, including one presidential ticket, 28 governorship slots, 109 Senate seats, 360 House of Representatives positions, and 991 state assembly seats.

Party sources disclosed that President Tinubu was granted a waiver by the screening committee.

Among those awaiting confirmation is Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who is vying for a senatorial seat while still serving as governor, chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, and head of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors for Tinubu’s re-election campaign.

Party insiders reportedly warned that his dual ambition could create constitutional and political complications, as his governorship tenure is expected to run until January 2028.

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who is currently in a political dispute with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is also among those awaiting clearance.

In Ogun State, former governor and current Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, is engaged in a political tussle with Governor Dapo Abiodun over a senatorial ticket.

Similarly, Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya is contesting against former Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo for a Senate nomination.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, who is seeking the APC governorship ticket in Abia State, is also awaiting the outcome. He recently faced allegations over his academic and NYSC participation records.

The development comes amid rising tension within the APC, with several aspirants insisting on direct primaries instead of consensus arrangements and warning against imposed candidates.

In response, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda cautioned aspirants and their supporters against violence and anti-party activities, stressing that the party would not tolerate any conduct capable of disrupting the primaries.

He warned that anyone found engaging in violence or party sabotage would face disciplinary action, including possible suspension.

NDLEA Seizes ₦10.4bn Worth Of Canadian Loud At Lagos Port In Major Drug Bust.

Published

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted 4,173.5 kilogrammes of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, at the Tin Can Island Port in Lagos.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that the seized illicit shipment is estimated to have a street value of ₦10.43 billion.

The agency disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday issued by its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.

According to the NDLEA, the operation followed extensive intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tracking of the container, which originated from Toronto, Canada.

The container reportedly departed Toronto on March 28, was transported by rail to Montreal, and loaded onto a vessel named Jakarta Express Voyage.

It later arrived at Tanger Med Port in Morocco on April 15, where it was offloaded and reloaded onto another vessel, Osaka Voyage, before arriving in Lagos on May 9, 2026.

The NDLEA stated that the consignment was eventually intercepted on Tuesday, May 12, during a joint examination involving its operatives, the Nigeria Customs Service, and other security agencies.

Drugs Concealed In Vehicles

The agency revealed that the drugs were hidden inside two vehicles—a used Ford bus and a Mercedes-Benz C300—placed within the shipping container.

The Director of NDLEA Seaports Operations, ACG Ibinabo Archie-Abia, said the seizure highlighted the importance of inter-agency collaboration and intelligence-led enforcement.

She noted that the success reflected the strength of coordinated efforts among local and international partners in tackling transnational drug trafficking.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended officers of the Tin Can Island Command and Marine Intelligence Unit for their professionalism and vigilance.

He warned that recent large-scale seizures indicated a renewed effort by international drug syndicates to use Nigerian ports as entry points for illicit substances.

Marwa said the agency, in collaboration with Customs and international partners including the Canadian Royal Mounted Police, UK agencies, and the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), would continue to dismantle trafficking networks.

He added that no effort would be spared in ensuring those behind the shipments are tracked and brought to justice.

‘Conditions Were Too Much’ — PRP Explains Failed Obi, Kwankwaso Collaboration.

Published

on

The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has explained that a proposed political collaboration with former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso collapsed due to conditions attached to their possible entry into the party.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that Baba-Ahmed made this known during a Hausa political programme on DITV Kaduna, where he said both Obi and Kwankwaso had initially expressed interest in working with the PRP, with discussions advancing to the point of considering a formal committee to continue negotiations.

According to him, one of the major sticking points was the demand that they be assured the party’s presidential ticket without internal contest, a request the PRP leadership rejected.

He said the party insisted that both politicians must first officially join the PRP and go through its established democratic processes before seeking any elective position.

Baba-Ahmed explained: “They came and said they wanted to join the PRP, but when we sat down and discussed with them, there were certain demands they made.

“Before they joined, they told us that they were the presidential candidates, meaning they should be given the ticket. We told them no, this is PRP; we do not practice that kind of politics.

“I told them: first come into the party. After joining, you can then tell me, ‘I am Obi and I want to run for President,’ and ‘I am Kwankwaso and I want to be his running mate.’

“But for you to come even before a decision is made and ask us to guarantee you the ticket without opposition if you are truly strong contenders, then why fear competition?”

He added that while the PRP recognised the political strength and influence of both men, the party could not bypass its constitution or internal democratic procedures.

The PRP chairman further revealed that the camps of the two politicians also requested a large share of party positions, citing their expected supporters.

Baba-Ahmed said the party was open to inclusion but insisted that formal membership must come first before any negotiations on positions.

He also noted that concerns about the PRP’s status on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal, as well as internal party disputes, contributed to the breakdown of talks.

According to him, “They said when they checked the INEC portal, they could not find our party’s name there, which has been addressed. But they also heard some people falsely claiming to be PRP members, which they felt could create confusion if they joined the party. We told them we are doing our best to address that too.

“We wished each other well and parted peacefully there was no quarrel or fight.”

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced a revised timetable for its primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The updated schedule was made public on Wednesday through a statement jointly signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo, and National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.

According to the statement, the adjustment followed requests from aspirants as well as logistical considerations.

Under the new schedule, the deadline for submission of nomination forms has been extended by one day and will now close on May 14, 2026, instead of the earlier date of May 13.

The party also disclosed that the screening of aspirants, initially fixed for May 14 to May 15, has been shifted to May 16 and May 17, 2026.

It added that every other date previously announced in the timetable remains unchanged.

Meanwhile, the ADC State Chairmen Forum has cautioned aspirants against purchasing expression of interest and nomination forms from the faction led by Senator David Mark, warning that doing so could lead to disqualification from the 2027 contest.

The forum argued that the sale of forms by the Mark-led group violates an April 29 ruling of the Abuja High Court and may carry serious legal implications.

reports that the warning was contained in a statement issued by Norman Obinna, Publicity Secretary of the state chairmen-led National Executive Committee (NEC) forum.

Obinna maintained that the sale of forms by the David Mark faction allegedly contravenes the judgment delivered by Justice J.O. Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Abuja, in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/581/2026 on April 29, 2026.
