Court Blocks Bauchi Accountant General From Travelling For Hajj Amid Alleged Fraud Case.

reports that Jaja is currently being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alongside co-defendant Aliyu Abubakar, an alleged unlicensed bureau de change operator, on a amended five-count charge bordering on alleged conversion of Bauchi State Government funds and money laundering involving ₦1.635 billion.
The application was presented after the cross-examination of the first prosecution witness, Abimbola Williams, a compliance officer with the United Bank for Africa (UBA), concluded at the resumed hearing. Jaja’s counsel, Chris Uche (SAN), informed the court that his client was seeking a temporary release of his passport to enable him travel for two weeks for Hajj and medical attention.
However, the prosecution counsel, Abba Muhammed (SAN), opposed the request, arguing that the defendant posed a flight risk and noting that other parties in the case were still at large. He also submitted a 10-paragraph affidavit supporting the objection filed in March 2026.
After hearing both sides, Justice Egwuatu dismissed the application and ordered that the trial continue, adjourning the case to June 30, 2026, for further hearing.
