Bomb Explosion Rocks Zamfara Highway, Leaves Six Dead.

reports that the incident happened on Thursday when a Volkswagen Golf carrying passengers from Bagega to Anka in Anka Local Government Area detonated an explosive along the route. A security source involved in the rescue operation said six passengers died instantly in the blast. According to the source, emergency responders arrived at the scene more than 20 minutes after the explosion occurred. The injured victims, including a woman, her child, and six men, were taken to the Primary Healthcare Centre in Bagega for medical treatment. A resident of Bagega, whose brother was among the injured, said they were informed about the incident by a soldier. “When I got to the hospital, I was told it was a bomb planted by bandits on the road,” the resident said, speaking anonymously for security reasons. The spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, Yazid Abubakar, did not respond to multiple calls and messages seeking confirmation. Anka and surrounding areas have continued to experience persistent attacks linked to armed bandit groups. While such explosive incidents were previously rare in Zamfara, reports indicate a rise in cases since late 2024. Security reports suggest that several roadside explosive attacks have been recorded this year, particularly along the Tsafe–Funtua highway and parts of Anka Local Government Area.
