SDP Strengthens North-West Base With Appointment Of New Zonal Executives.

The election was held during the SDP North-West Zonal Congress at the party’s state secretariat in Kaduna on Monday, May 4, 2026.
reports that the results were announced in a statement issued at the end of the congress by the Chairman and Secretary of the Electoral Committee, Adamu Idris and Titus Madaki.
According to the committee, all candidates who contested the available zonal positions were elected unopposed.
The electoral body noted that the exercise was peaceful and conducted in accordance with the party’s democratic principles.
Suleiman’s emergence is expected to boost the SDP’s organizational strength across the seven North-West states.
Speaking after the election, Electoral Committee Chairman Adamu Idris urged the newly elected executives to embrace inclusive leadership and ensure that all party members are carried along.
He advised them to prioritize the party’s collective interest above personal ambitions while promoting unity within the SDP.
Idris stressed that stronger internal cohesion would enhance the party’s competitiveness in future elections and help expand its political relevance.
He also emphasized the importance of building solid democratic structures capable of attracting more members and improving the party’s electoral fortunes.
Responding on behalf of the newly elected officials, Suleiman expressed gratitude to delegates and party members for the confidence placed in them.
He pledged that the new leadership would focus on strengthening the SDP’s presence across the North-West and positioning it as a more formidable opposition force in the region.
According to him, the administration will prioritize improved electoral performance, wider political influence, and intensified grassroots mobilization ahead of future elections.
He added that consultation, party expansion, and stronger grassroots engagement would form the core of their strategy.
Other officials elected during the congress include Rilwanu Jamo from Katsina State as Zonal Secretary, Hassan Gidan Laka from Sokoto State as Zonal Treasurer, Comrade Musa Lawan from Katsina State as Zonal Publicity Secretary, and Comrade Inuwa Idris from Kaduna State as Zonal Financial Secretary.
Also elected were Bishop Alex Baidi as Zonal Organising Secretary, Dr Aminu Sagagi as Welfare Secretary, Garba Namodori as Auditor, Ummi Kabir as Women Leader, and Murtala Jangebe as Youth Leader.
