Soludo Makes Bold Statement On Igbo Future, Calls For Stronger United Nigeria.

Published

The Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, has urged the Igbo people to critically reassess long-standing narratives of marginalisation and reconsider the push for secession.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

He said it is important for Igbos to determine whether the agitation for separation is justified or not.

Soludo made the remarks on Tuesday while delivering the 6th Biennial Adada Lecture organised by the Association of Nsukka Professors at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

He also criticised what he described as a decline in critical thinking within universities, arguing that many academic works fail to influence real-world solutions.

According to him, “The Nigeria-Biafra war was literally declared from this hall (UNN), and the justification or otherwise of that declaration should have been interrogated by the university community.”

He added that academic institutions are producing large volumes of research that rarely translate into practical impact, while the country continues to face pressing challenges.

Soludo lamented that Nigeria is overwhelmed by “more noise but less light,” stressing the need to bridge the gap between academic ideas and government policy. He noted that knowledge without practical application is ineffective.

He maintained that the future of the Igbo people is tied to a united Nigeria, urging Igbo intellectuals to take the lead in national discourse rather than leaving it to informal or emotional debates.

He further warned against intellectual passivity, saying silence from the academic community could have serious consequences. He emphasised that talent alone is not enough without action.

Citing global figures such as Isaac Newton, Nnamdi Azikiwe, and Kwame Nkrumah, Soludo reminded scholars that history honours those who combine thought with action rather than those who only theorise.

He concluded by challenging academics to be more engaged, insisting that intellectualism without practical contribution is unproductive.

The Presidency has characterized Peter Obi, the 2027 presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), as someone who employs a victim narrative to garner public sympathy despite being at fault. In response to these allegations, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has called for Obi to pay a ₦25,000 fine and publicly apologize to airport staff, stating that an internal investigation confirmed the vehicle was improperly parked. Keyamo provided details from CCTV footage of the July 4, 2026, incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, noting the following:

  • Obi arrived at the domestic terminal at approximately 8:28 p.m. in a vehicle driven by a police officer.

  • After dropping off the passengers, the driver parked the vehicle in a restricted drop-off zone and left it unattended to enter the terminal, which violates airport regulations.

Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Bola Tinubu, has publicly challenged Obi to retract his account of the event. Ajayi, referencing a Yoruba proverb regarding a guilty party who seeks sympathy through false narratives, expressed hope that Obi would act honorably and recant his characterization of the experience.
