Lagos Authorities Issue Strong Warning Over Unauthorized Parking Enforcement.

The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has issued a firm warning against unauthorised involvement in parking management in Lagos State, stating that it will pursue legal action against individuals or groups attempting to interfere with its statutory responsibilities.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

LASPA’s General Manager, Adebisi Adelabu, made this known while responding to recent claims by a local government official asserting authority over parking operations.

She described a letter allegedly issued by a council parking manager as misleading and invalid, noting that it was not written on official letterhead and misrepresented the legal framework governing parking regulation in the state.

Adelabu reiterated that LASPA is the only agency legally empowered to regulate and manage parking in Lagos, as established by laws passed by the Lagos State House of Assembly and supported by all 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas.

According to her, “LASPA remains the only government agency legally empowered to oversee parking across the state, in line with laws enacted by the Lagos State House of Assembly and supported by a collaborative framework involving all 57 local government areas and local council development areas.”

She advised licensed parking operators and members of the public to disregard any unauthorised instructions, warning that harassment or misrepresentation of approved operators would not be tolerated.

Adelabu further cautioned those behind such actions to desist immediately or face legal consequences.

She explained that LASPA was established to ensure order in parking management, ease traffic congestion, and introduce efficient, technology-driven systems across the state.

The LASPA boss also dismissed any suggestion that local governments have control over parking operations, describing such claims as false and contrary to existing laws.

“Any claim suggesting that local government authorities retain control over parking management is not only inaccurate but constitutes a direct violation of the extant laws guiding parking regulation in the state,” she stated.

She stressed that all parking-related activities must be conducted strictly under LASPA’s supervision in collaboration with approved and registered operators.

Adelabu concluded that any attempt to interfere with the agency’s mandate would be treated as unlawful and met with appropriate legal action to preserve order, transparency, and efficiency in the system.
