Federal High Court Steps In To Enforce N100.1m Ruling Against Police Force.

A Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo has ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to explain why funds tied to a N100.1 million judgment debt should not be released to settle liabilities owed by the Nigeria Police Force and other respondents.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The directive was issued on Wednesday by Justice Adefunmilola Demi-Ajayi following an application filed by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) and its chairman, Hasim Abioye.

The applicants are seeking enforcement of an earlier November 2025 judgment that awarded damages against the Nigeria Police Force and other parties involved in the case.

The earlier ruling ordered the payment of N100 million in damages, along with N100,000 in costs, over actions taken against the electoral body ahead of the February 22, 2025 local government elections in Osun State.

In the latest motion, counsel to the applicants, I.T. Tewogbade, asked the court through an ex parte application to compel immediate payment of the outstanding judgment sum.

Part of the request sought a garnishee order directing that funds held in accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria be used to satisfy the judgment debt.

The applicants further urged that sufficient funds belonging to the judgment debtors be released to cover the N100 million award and the additional costs of N100,000.

They also asked that monies within the Federal Government’s Treasury Single Account be included in the enforcement process.

After considering the application, the court granted the request and issued an order nisi against the apex bank, directing it to show cause why the funds should not be released for payment.

The judgment debt stems from a case challenging the sealing of OSSIEC offices and the arrest of its staff by police authorities ahead of the elections.

In the earlier ruling, the court held that the actions of the police were unlawful and not supported by any legal justification regarding their intervention in the electoral process.

Supporters of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, are scheduled to hold a unity summit in Abuja today.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The event, themed “One Voice, One Vision: In Unity We Win,” is being organised by the OK Movement, a group advocating for a possible Obi–Kwankwaso political partnership ahead of the 2027 general elections.

A flyer shared on by the group on Friday indicated that eight speakers will feature at the summit.

The lineup includes New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) chieftain Buba Galadima, activist Aisha Yesufu, and Isaac Fayose, brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose.

Others billed to speak are Moses Paul, a former African Democratic Congress (ADC) chairmanship candidate, and Adebayo Adefolaseye, the South-West coordinator of the OK Movement.

As of report time, about 428 participants had reportedly registered to attend the gathering.

The summit comes amid rising political speculation that Obi and Kwankwaso may be considering a move from the ADC to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

On Friday night, Kwankwasiyya movement spokesperson Habibu Mohammed stated that both politicians were expected to conclude arrangements for the defection next week.

He said the decision followed unanimous approval by key stakeholders and added that discussions with the NDC were approximately 90 percent complete, with only minor details remaining.

According to him, the two politicians, along with other associates, could formally join the NDC as early as Monday or Tuesday.

“I believe him, Peter Obi, and some others will be joining the NDC,” Mohammed said.

The ongoing leadership crisis within the ADC has been linked to the reported political realignment.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court set aside an earlier order maintaining the status quo in the ADC leadership dispute and referred the case back to the Federal High Court for further hearing, effectively prolonging the uncertainty.

The OK Movement was originally launched in April by supporters of Obi and Kwankwaso to rally backing for a joint 2027 presidential ticket.
