A former Executive Vice Chairman of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Mohammed Haruna, has declared his intention to contest the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Nasarawa State, insisting he will not withdraw in favour of any “anointed” candidate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The declaration comes amid reports of rising support within the APC for Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, who is allegedly being backed by Governor Abdullahi Sule as his preferred successor.

Speaking at a consultative meeting in Keffi, Haruna told party stakeholders that his decision would be guided by their collective position.

He said, “If you decide that we should step down, I will accept that. If the decision is that we should go for the primaries, I will also accept it. That is why we are here.”

Following discussions, stakeholders from all three senatorial zones reportedly urged him to remain in the race.

Accepting their position, Haruna announced his readiness to contest, saying, “Your decision has guided our next step. I have accepted to go into the primaries, and we will hold our rally on Wednesday.”

He explained that his consultations were based on loyalty to supporters and his commitment to internal democracy, while also referencing his role in the formation of the APC.

“I supported the Congress for Progressive Change financially and contributed to the foundation of the party. I have been part of APC from the national level,” he said.

Haruna also raised concerns about the succession process in the state, noting that earlier agreements on leadership choices appeared to have changed.

He maintained that he would respect the outcome of a credible primary election.

“If the primaries are free and fair, we will accept whatever result comes out,” he stated.

He further dismissed rumours suggesting he had withdrawn from the race, describing them as false and misleading.

Party stakeholders at the meeting justified their support for Haruna, citing zoning balance and his experience in public service.

One stakeholder, Suleiman Amgbashi, said that while the governor may have a preferred candidate, the final decision should be determined through a competitive process.

Another party member, Mohammad Bello, described Haruna as the most impactful aspirant, while Rev. Benjamin Baka praised his track record in public service.

Political Firestorm As APC Slams Makinde For ‘Operation Wetie’ Comment.

Published

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, over comments he made at an opposition summit in Ibadan, accusing him of promoting violence and posing a threat to national security.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party described Makinde’s reference to “Operation Wetie” as both reckless and dangerous.

The APC said it was troubling that a sitting governor, who also serves as the chief security officer of his state, would allude to a violent chapter in Nigeria’s political history.

“The APC categorically condemns Governor Makinde’s incitement as reckless, and a clear and present threat to peace and national security,” the statement read.

The party called on security and intelligence agencies to take the matter seriously and act to safeguard lives and property.

It warned that the governor’s remarks could trigger unrest and lawlessness if not addressed.

“His statement risks fueling anarchy, violent reactions, and widespread disorder capable of undermining national stability,” the APC stated.

The party also noted that constitutional immunity does not shield public officials from being held accountable for actions that may threaten national security.

It stressed that no individual, regardless of position, should make statements capable of endangering lives or destabilising democratic governance.

The APC further dismissed claims by opposition parties that Nigeria is sliding toward a one-party state, describing such assertions as misleading.

It argued that opposition groups are dealing with internal crises stemming from poor leadership, factional disputes, and disregard for due process.

The party specifically mentioned the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, and African Democratic Congress, accusing them of failing to present a credible alternative to the ruling government.

Reaffirming its stance, the APC said it remains focused on strengthening democratic institutions and delivering on its governance agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Our democracy thrives on competing ideas. The inability of opposition leaders to present viable alternatives is their responsibility, not ours,” the statement added.
