Galadima, a respected football administrator and community leader, died on Saturday at the age of 78.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President paid tribute to the Kano-born sports icon, highlighting his enduring contributions to the growth of football in Nigeria.

Tinubu described the late Galadima as a dedicated sports promoter whose impact was felt at both grassroots and national levels, noting that his legacy would continue to inspire future generations.

He said Galadima’s work in developing Nigerian football would be remembered for years, adding that the nation has lost a selfless patriot who contributed meaningfully to national development through sports.

Galadima held several key positions during his lifetime, including Chairman of the Kano State Sports Council and two-time commissioner in the state. He later became president of the then Nigeria Football Association between 2002 and 2006 before its restructuring into the Nigeria Football Federation.

Beyond sports administration, he was also a community leader and traditional titleholder, serving as the Galadiman Fagge in Kano State.

Multiple factions are now locked in a struggle for control of the party, leaving members uncertain about the legitimate leadership structure.

One faction is led by John Akpanudodehe, a former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while another is headed by the embattled state chairman, Dick Duke.

Although the leader of a third faction could not be immediately confirmed, findings indicate that another group also exists within the party.

Sources further suggest that the Akpanudodehe-led faction is seeking to remove the current chairman through a recently held congress that has sparked controversy.

He said the party had formally written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to distance itself from the exercise, citing a subsisting court order.
