Ekiti 2026: PDP, ADC No Match For Oyebanji’s Re-election Bid — Ekundayo.

Published

on

The current political atmosphere in Ekiti State is calm, stable, and highly favourable for Governor Biodun Oyebanji to secure a second term. Beyond just winning, there is growing expectation that he will deliver a decisive and overwhelming victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Political indicators across all 16 local government areas and 177 wards suggest strong support for the governor. Observations on the ground also point to widespread acceptance among residents.

According to stakeholders, two major factors will shape the election outcome: the governor’s performance and his accessibility to the people. Oyebanji, popularly known as “BAO,” is widely praised for running an inclusive administration that keeps him closely connected to ordinary citizens.

In one instance cited, a petition sent via WhatsApp was received at the governor’s office, investigated through the appropriate channels, and acted upon. This, observers say, reflects the administration’s responsiveness and openness.

Supporters also argue that Oyebanji enjoys broad acceptance among different groups, including professionals, traders, farmers, traditional rulers, students, and pensioners. Although challenges remain, they say his government has made significant progress in clearing pension arrears and addressing inherited liabilities.

Field surveys reportedly show strong approval ratings for the governor, with some assessments suggesting that a large majority of respondents are willing to vote for him again. In many communities, his name is said to be more recognizable than the party itself, reinforcing his personal popularity.

While the opposition claims the race will be competitive, APC insiders insist the margin of victory will be wide. They argue that opposition parties, particularly PDP and ADC, currently lack the structure and influence needed to mount a serious challenge.

The APC is also strengthening its grassroots campaign machinery, with thousands of canvassers mobilised for door-to-door outreach across the state. The party believes its structure is now stronger than ever ahead of the election.

Analysts, however, note that Ekiti has a history of political surprises, though supporters of the governor argue that his close relationships with political stakeholders, traditional rulers, and former leaders give him a unique advantage.

Opposition parties continue to dismiss claims of overwhelming APC dominance, but supporters counter with evidence of completed infrastructure projects, improved road networks, and ongoing development initiatives showcased through official monitoring platforms.

Looking ahead, APC leaders insist that internal processes for upcoming legislative primaries will be guided by party elders, with emphasis on fairness, unity, and experience.

In the agricultural sector, the state’s monitoring framework is also being used to track investment outcomes, improve productivity, and ensure accountability in government-backed programmes.

Overall, APC stakeholders maintain that the combination of strong performance, grassroots support, and political structure places Governor Oyebanji in a strong position for re-election, while opposition parties are still struggling to build momentum ahead of 2027.

Factional Crisis Rocks ADC In Akwa Ibom As Party Splits Deepen.

Published

Barely a year after its inauguration in Akwa Ibom State, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been plunged into a deep factional crisis.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Multiple factions are now locked in a struggle for control of the party, leaving members uncertain about the legitimate leadership structure.

One faction is led by John Akpanudodehe, a former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while another is headed by the embattled state chairman, Dick Duke.

Although the leader of a third faction could not be immediately confirmed, findings indicate that another group also exists within the party.

Sources further suggest that the Akpanudodehe-led faction is seeking to remove the current chairman through a recently held congress that has sparked controversy.

In response, Dick Duke convened a stakeholders’ meeting over the weekend, where he rejected the legitimacy of the said congress.

He said the party had formally written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to distance itself from the exercise, citing a subsisting court order.

According to him, his tenure as state chairman is still valid until May, and any congress conducted before then would be unlawful.

Duke added that the party would only proceed with proper congresses after the expiration of his tenure and the resolution of legal issues, in line with due process.
