According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the shipment—weighing 2.80kg—was destined for the United Kingdom via a Virgin Atlantic flight.

The interception, carried out on April 9, 2026, led to the arrest of two cargo agents, while further investigation resulted in the arrest of the alleged sender, a 52-year-old freight forwarder.

In a separate operation at the airport import shed on April 8, NDLEA officers also recovered 2.90kg of “loud,” a strong strain of cannabis, concealed inside snack packs on a Delta Airlines flight from the United States.

Two clearing agents were initially arrested, followed by the detention of the intended recipient, a 29-year-old fashion designer, in Lagos.

Elsewhere, operatives intercepted a truck along the Kaduna–Zaria highway carrying cement but secretly loaded with 760 blocks and 33 jumbo bags of cannabis weighing 847kg. The driver was arrested.

In Cross River, a 53-year-old woman was arrested after a raid on a cannabis farm where over 15,000kg of the plant was destroyed, while another large farm in Edo State was also raided with over 2,281kg destroyed and three suspects arrested.

In Delta State, two suspects were caught with nearly 88kg of cannabis and seeds.

In Lagos, NDLEA also arrested two suspects transporting large quantities of tramadol and injections intended for Ghana, while another raid on Lagos Island led to the recovery of 95.8kg of cannabis.

The agency said its nationwide operations also included ongoing awareness campaigns under its War Against Drug Abuse initiative in schools, workplaces, and communities.

NDLEA Chairman, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended officers for their efforts and urged them to sustain the momentum in both enforcement and public sensitisation.
