The Lagos State branch of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has removed its chairman, Babajide Saheed, following an Emergency General Meeting held on Saturday in Lagos.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In his place, the association’s former 1st Vice-Chairman, Temidire Ewonowo, has been appointed as the new chairman in line with the NMA constitution.

The decision was taken through a secret ballot after members accused the former chairman of repeatedly violating the association’s rules and regulations.

Addressing the development, Ewonowo listed several allegations against Saheed, including failure to convene an Emergency General Meeting within the stipulated time after a formal request was made by affiliate leaders and members.

He also cited instances where the former chairman allegedly walked out of a duly convened Emergency General Meeting and submitted an unapproved delegate list.

According to him, the chairman also referred members to a disciplinary committee based on decisions that were not approved by the State Executive Council or congress.

Ewonowo said the constitution provides that in the event of a chairman’s removal, the 1st Vice-Chairman automatically assumes leadership, adding that due process was followed.

He noted that the meeting had 112 members and nine affiliate heads in attendance, meeting the required quorum for such a decision.

Out of the votes cast, 93 supported the removal, four opposed it, while three were invalid.

He further stated that the Emergency General Meeting remains the highest decision-making body of the association.

Suleiman said the mobilisation was part of efforts to drum up support for President Bola Tinubu, the APC governorship candidate, and Adeniyi Ismail Oluwatosin ahead of the elections, adding that the group had been actively engaging voters through door-to-door campaigns and CVR mobilisation.
