The decision was reached during a plenary session, following a motion moved by the Chief Whip, Ajaa Echezolachi, and seconded by the Deputy Leader, Steven Echeta, before being unanimously adopted by members present.

The Council lawmakers also issued a seven-day ultimatum for Igbokwe to appear before the Assembly to respond to the allegations.

According to a statement signed by the Legislative members under the leadership of Benson Mgbechi, the suspension followed several accusations, including persistent absence from official duties and unauthorized trips outside the state without approval.

They described such actions as a breach of official protocol and neglect of duty expected from a senior public office holder.

The Assembly further alleged that Igbokwe is linked to armed robbery and other unspecified crimes, noting that his reported arrest and detention by the Lagos State Police Command formed part of the concerns raised.

Lawmakers said his alleged conduct has brought embarrassment to the council, the state government, and the local government area.

They stressed that the suspension is necessary to protect the image of the council and restore public confidence.

The Legislative body also cited relevant provisions of the law as the basis for its decision, insisting the action was taken to safeguard the integrity of the council and its administration.
