Court Sentences 4 Terrorists To Life Imprisonment, 14 Others Convicted Over Boko Haram Attacks.

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday sentenced four individuals to life imprisonment for their roles in Boko Haram attacks across Borno State between 2021 and 2024.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Justice James Omotosho handed down the sentences after the convicts pleaded guilty to terrorism-related charges brought by the Federal Government. In addition to the life sentences, 14 other terrorists received jail terms ranging from 20 to 25 years, while another suspect, Amina Audu, was released after completing a one-year sentence.

The prosecution, led by the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, and Director of Public Prosecutions Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, presented evidence including confessional statements and investigation reports from the Department of State Services (DSS).

The four sentenced to life imprisonment are Ali Abiso, Bakura Abah Kabiru, Ado (aka Luka Garba), and Babagoni Masawai.

  • Ali Abiso, 30, from Bama LGA, was sentenced to life for counts two and four, and 25 years for counts one and three, to run concurrently. He participated in attacks in Bama, Gwoza, Konduga, Bita, Baza, and Aulari on July 8, 2022.
  • Bakura Abah Kabiru received life for count two and 25 years for counts one and three.
  • Ado (Luka Garba) was sentenced to life in count two and 25 years in count one.
  • Babagoni Masawai received life for counts six and seven, 20 years for counts one and two, and 10 years for counts three, four, and five.

The 14 others convicted include Ali Mustapha, Danbawa Salisu, Modu Ali, Sanda Bello, Mustapha Fali, Modu Musa, Bidal Modu, Mohammed Abdullahi, Umar Garba, Usman Ahmadu, Hussaini Bukar, Baba Manye, Musa Mai Modu, and Ali Musa. Ali Mustapha, for instance, received a total of 80 years across seven counts, running concurrently.

Separately, Justice Musa Liman ordered the release of Amina Audu, who had pleaded guilty to providing logistical support to Boko Haram. Her one-year sentence, served from the date of her arrest on April 8, 2024, was deemed already completed.

The court emphasized that the guilty pleas corroborated the evidence presented, reinforcing accountability for terrorism-related offences in Nigeria.

The exam, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), will run from April 16 to April 22 in multiple daily sessions.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, urged examination officials to remain highly committed and professional, noting that the success of the exercise depends largely on their dedication.

He gave the charge during a virtual final briefing for technical officers ahead of the examination, where he also praised staff, ad hoc personnel, service providers, and technical advisers for their roles in the successful conduct of the mock exam.

Oloyede said many of the issues recorded during the mock exercise were due to poor assessment of centres by some technical officials.

He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.

Reiterating JAMB’s zero-tolerance stance on malpractice, he warned candidates against bringing prohibited items into examination halls.

He also disclosed that biometric verification and real-time monitoring systems have been deployed to protect the integrity of the exercise.

Candidates whose biometrics cannot be verified, he added, will be rescheduled to write the exam at approved centres.

Meanwhile, a NAN correspondent monitoring proceedings at Aduvie International School, Jahi, reported that the first session scheduled for 8:30 a.m. began slightly behind schedule at about 8:40 a.m.
