Super Eagles Skip Bronze Medal Ceremony – NFF Explains Reason.

Published

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, has clarified why the Super Eagles missed the medal ceremony at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Nigeria secured third place on Saturday after defeating Egypt 4–2 on penalties in the bronze medal match. However, the players were notably absent from the podium during Sunday’s final between Morocco and Senegal.

Gusau explained that the team could not stay for the medal presentation due to pressure from their European clubs, which required the players to return immediately after the playoff.

“The players could not wait to receive their medals on Sunday. Their clubs were already after them to come back after Saturday’s game,” Gusau said, as reported by journalist Osasu Obayiuwana on .

He added that Nigeria was not alone in facing this situation, pointing out that Egypt had encountered similar challenges.

“I have the medals in my possession. And this is the case for Egypt too, not just us. Had the medal ceremony taken place on the day of the match, they would have had the medals,” he noted.

Despite missing the ceremony, Nigeria’s win reinforced their record as the team with the most third-place finishes in AFCON history, claiming their ninth bronze medal at the continental tournament.
