Shockwaves in Plateau as Governor Muftwang Admits: APC Courted Me for My Worth
Plateau State Governor Caleb Muftwang has firmly denied rumours suggesting he plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), calling the claims unfounded and misleading.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service on Wednesday, Muftwang reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the PDP, stating he has no intention of leaving the party that enabled his rise to power.
His remarks come amid growing speculation that he may follow in the footsteps of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom Governor Pastor Umo Eno, both of whom recently defected to the APC—fueling talk of a broader opposition shift ahead of the 2027 elections.
“There’s absolutely no truth to the rumour. I’ve never considered leaving the PDP,” Muftwang said. “It is the PDP that gave me the opportunity to become governor, and I remain committed to the party. Nothing will make me abandon it.”
Reacting light-heartedly to the defection rumours, Muftwang recounted how a friend had forwarded a newspaper article to him earlier in the day.
“A friend sent me the report this morning, and I just laughed. There’s no law against hunters chasing after valuable game. Clearly, they see something good in us—that’s why they want us to join them. But like you read it in the papers, that’s how I also read it,” he said.
The governor’s response comes at a time when the PDP is grappling with internal friction and the fallout from recent defections, which have raised concerns about party cohesion and electoral strength.
Muftwang’s emphatic denial is expected to reassure PDP supporters both in Plateau and across the North-Central region, where the party still enjoys considerable grassroots support.
