Ranchers Bees Make Historic NPFL Comeback After 16 Years Away.

Ranchers Bees have secured a long-awaited return to top-flight football after gaining promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), ending a 16-year absence from the elite division.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Kaduna-based club topped Conference D of the Nigeria National League (NNL), amassing 20 points from 11 matches to confirm their comeback to the top tier for the first time since the 2009/2010 season.

Their promotion was sealed with a convincing 2-0 victory over Kebbi United on Wednesday. In other conferences, Beyond Limits, Akwa United, and Doma United also booked places in the NPFL.

Founded in 1974, Ranchers Bees—formerly known as DIC Bees—were once a dominant force in Nigerian football. They reached the Nigerian Cup final in 1983 and won the WAFU Cup in 1989, playing their home matches at the Kaduna Township Stadium.

The club also built a strong reputation for developing talent, producing players like former Super Eagles striker Daniel Amokachi.

However, years of financial struggles and administrative setbacks saw the team drop through the ranks, leaving fans watching from a distance as the club faded from prominence. This latest promotion marks a major revival many had doubted would happen.

The resurgence gained momentum last year when Super Eagles forward Umar Sadiq became co-owner alongside Bello El-Rufai. At the time, Sadiq was playing for Real Sociedad before later completing a move to Valencia CF.

Despite his commitments abroad, Sadiq invested in rebuilding the club, aiming to restore its former glory. Following the takeover, the new management introduced structural reforms, improved funding, strengthened the squad, and launched plans for youth development and fan engagement.

Their immediate goal of promotion has now been achieved in just one season. Ranchers Bees are set to compete in the NPFL next season, joining other privately run sides such as Ikorodu City, Barau FC, Kun Khalifat, and reigning champions Remo Stars.
