‘Buying Music Isn’t Enough’ – Ruggedman Tells Fans Not To Bear All Pressure For Social Change.

Veteran Nigerian rapper and content creator, Michael Stephens, popularly known as Ruggedman, has urged fans to stop pressuring celebrities to champion social change on their behalf.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In an interview with Punch, Ruggedman emphasized that buying a celebrity’s music does not entitle fans to demand activism from them.

He stressed that citizens should focus their demands on elected officials who are directly responsible for governance.

“Fans can ask celebrities to speak up, but they can’t pressure them. Buying music entertains you—that’s a service, not a mandate to advocate for social change,” he said. “If you applied the same logic everywhere, you’d pressure restaurant owners or other service providers the same way. The people who owe you accountability are your local government chairmen, governors, senators, and the president.”

Ruggedman also addressed criticism of his style, saying, “I can’t tell people what to want. I’ve contributed a lot to the Nigerian music industry, especially rap, and criticism has been part of my journey. I’ve developed a thick skin, but I still value constructive feedback.”
