Fear has swept through the Ozoro community in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, with many female students reportedly fleeing over concerns of possible new attacks following the assault of women during a traditional festival.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The incident follows the widely condemned Ozoro ‘rape festival,’ where viral videos showed young women being chased, stripped, and assaulted by groups of youths, sparking national outrage.

A student leader told Punch that traumatized female students have begun leaving the community to avoid further violence.

He noted that the atmosphere remains tense, with anxiety spreading among residents and students, especially as uncertainty persists about the festival’s duration and whether the attacks could recur.

The student leader, describing the situation as “deeply troubling,” alleged that some university students were among those who assaulted women during the festival.

“Most of the female students are scared, particularly after being told the festival could last seven days. Many left early this morning, while others were still seen departing later in the day,” he said. “It’s not only the indigenes who participated—some students were involved as well. This highlights the level of societal decay, the failure of our education system, and poor human behavior.”

He insisted that everyone involved should be treated as “common criminals,” regardless of status, and called for their immediate arrest and prosecution.

While no confirmed cases of rape among the students have been reported, some victims received hospital treatment for assault. “Sexual assault is a grave offense that violates the dignity of our women, and we will not condone it,” he added.

The Nigerian Police Force has confirmed the arrest of 15 suspects connected to the incident. Force New Media Officer, Aliyu Giwa, stated via his account that investigations are ongoing and justice will be served.

“As stated, a total of 15 suspects have been arrested. This reaffirms the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring justice. Investigations remain ongoing,” he wrote.

Atiku Under Fire: Babachir Lawal Tells ADC To Field A Better Candidate.

Published

on

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir Lawal has asserted that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) faces defeat in the 2027 presidential election unless they replace their candidate, Atiku Abubakar, with a more suitable alternative. Lawal, who recently resigned from the party following a rift with Atiku, argues that the former Vice-President lacks the necessary “cosmopolitan” perspective to govern a nation as diverse as Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement titled “My Kachalla II”—written as a rebuttal to criticism he faced after his initial comments about Atiku—Lawal raised several pointed concerns regarding the former Vice-President:

  • Silence on Violence: Lawal questioned why Atiku has consistently failed to publicly empathize with victims of banditry, kidnapping, and mass killings across Nigeria, citing specific tragedies involving Hausa, Tiv, Idoma, Birom, Mupum, Irigwe, and Ngas communities, as well as incidents in Suleja, Owo, and the murder of the Emir of Gobir.

  • Questioning Allegiances: Lawal suggested that Atiku’s silence might stem from his tribal or ethnic biases, asking if this is the pattern of governance Nigerians should expect if he were to be elected.

  • Business and Competence: Lawal challenged Atiku’s reputation as an astute businessman, noting that several of his enterprises are reportedly in distress, leased, or divested.

  • Political Integrity: Recalling Atiku’s past claim that he would “enrich his friends,” Lawal defended his right to rigorously question the character and competence of anyone seeking to serve as Commander-in-Chief.

Lawal maintained that he intends to keep scrutinizing Atiku’s candidacy for the sake of the country and will not be intimidated by the “goons” or online attacks from the former Vice-President’s supporters. He urged the ADC leadership to act quickly before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline to select a candidate with better prospects of winning.
