Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remain focused on the security and welfare of Nigerians, rather than being distracted by politicians defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television, Ndume highlighted ongoing challenges in combating insurgency, pointing out serious gaps in military preparedness.

He said, “I have told the President not to be carried away by this bunch of people who are decamping. The electorates are staying put. The government should prioritise securing the country and improving citizens’ welfare instead of getting caught up in political manoeuvres ahead of 2027.

“The insurgents carry out hit-and-run attacks. Our soldiers are exposed, lacking proper surveillance, night vision equipment, and armoured vehicles. Task force battalions are deployed without adequate support, and the military has no standby helicopters in key areas. These gaps undermine our ability to protect Nigerians.”

Ndume also endorsed the Chief of Defence Staff’s call for community involvement in security, adding, “Most insurgents in my local government come from the communities themselves. If communities are empowered to defend themselves, attacks will drastically decline. This cannot be the government’s responsibility alone.”

On President Tinubu’s performance, Ndume acknowledged areas of weakness but stressed the need for action over political blame.

He stated, “The problem lies in leadership and execution. Soldiers must be properly equipped, and promises must translate into real protection. Bullets do not discriminate by political party—they take lives indiscriminately.”

The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to claims by Governor Ademola Adeleke that local government officials under the party diverted about ₦300 billion meant for workers’ salaries.

Adeleke had made the allegation during a stakeholders’ meeting, accusing APC-controlled council officials of hijacking funds and forcing the state government to shoulder salary payments for local government workers, teachers, health staff, and pensioners for over a year.

He insisted he would not abandon workers, blaming the situation for delays in executing some state projects.

But in a statement, APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, dismissed the claims, accusing the governor of misleading the public and shifting blame.

The party alleged that Adeleke was responsible for the salary issues, claiming he refused to release electronic payment vouchers and other financial documents needed for processing payments.

APC also said pension-related records, leave bonuses, cooperative deductions, and other financial data had not been made available despite repeated appeals, insisting that funds were properly accounted for and available for use if approved.

The party urged pensioners and workers to seek clarification, insisting the situation could be resolved if the governor allowed due process to take place.
